Can you explain copyright to me please?

Now I understand this belongs to the person who took the pic, correct? And you can buy prints of them, yes?

What if the photographer was offering pictures of your horse for general sale? No people involved in the pictures.....is this something thats fine? Or frowned upon...?

Thanks in advance!

As far as I understand, the copyright belongs to the person who took the picture unless they are on private property (uninvited) I think that's right but I'm sure someone more knowlegdable will be able help more :) .

My husband looked into all this before we set up our business, the person that took the photo owns the photo and the copyright to it.
To take photos of say horses in a field and sell them, if you are on someone's land you have to have the landowners permission to be on the land, however if for example there is a public road running down the side of the field and you took the photo from there, there isn't any claim from the land owner, or horse owner etc.
regarding people's permission who are in the photos and say you up loaded them to a website to sell them, unless they are a model that has a contract or are a minor, there isn't anything that person can do either.
This is my understanding of it, my husband knows it more in depth but he's not here at the mo to ask.
:)
