Hi All, any experience or opinions on which is best to buy and why? No major issues just looking to build up a horse who is weak through his back. Thank you

Pessoa are not IME a good idea if your thinking of something to along those lines the equiami is much better . Equi bands do work but however go on you tube and search Art2ride you will lots of interesting clips to think about if you horse is weak through his back .

I don't agree with the pessoa action, they are pulled in the mouth every time they lift their hocks. I agree with Goldenstar that the equiami is much better as it self balances so cancels that hock to mouth pull.
The equiband I have seen people use but seems a little fad-ish, people seem to use for a short while and I have never heard anyone say its made a difference but they might, good old fashioned hill work, pole work, if you have any water complexes locally work them in and out of those or a water treadmill if you have one locally.

Don't like the pessoa at all, as previously stated. I use a rubber bungee over the withers then inside the elbows to bit with raised trotting poles. It worked a treat in remuscling a mare that had a foal and lost all back muscle. Just don't do too much at once.

I'm not a huge fan of pessoa - but I do use them. The horse does not get caught in the mouth if it is fitted correctly. The problem is that lots of folk fit it too tight. The equi ami does exactly the same thing but is a bit more forgiving of a poor fit. I would be the first to accept that the pessoa is quite a tangle to get on and get adjusted correctly. If you only have one horse and are capable of fitting correctly then I have no hesitation in using it is suitable cases. But if you have to chnage the fit a lot between horses are are not confident of how to fit correctly then the equi ami is a better choice. Like a lot of things in the equine world - and outside it - I don't like their marketing strategy which is basically to create fear about a competitor product - but hey that's life I guess. They are hardly along in that practice!

The alternative - and for me one I prefer - is using an elasticated tail bandage in pretty much the same way as the equiband. You don't need to pay a fortune for what is basically an elasticated bandage. Use your normal roller or roller and pad and do it yourself! You then have the choice of what you use for the front end depending on the horse.
