Posting to say I’m so excited.

I’ve found a local yard that has a small herd, hard standing, shelters and is running a mix of equi central / track / field rotation. Whilst feeding adlib meadow hay round bales. With lots of trees and hedges to browse. Run as a DIY basis on a rota system. It’s been established a number of year, so it’s pretty well set up. We are moving there in July. My horse will love more turnout!

We already know the amazing hacking.

And I can pay to keep using the arenas where I am now.

Sorry I am not a new user, but my profile gives too much location details in old posts so I have set up an new profile and deleted old one. Definitely not an advert. As I am not the lease holder, nor are there spaces.

Well done OP. I'm starting to run my own place on that basis although its work in progress. Keeps my fatties on the move and allows me to use more of the grazing in winter because I track around the edge of the fields in summer.

Although not with ad lib hay due to owning one without an off button!

I wish there were more, I have so many customers whose good doers, in fact all horses, could really benefit from it.

I have made a small track up around my acre paddock and the amount of movement that goes on is incredible. I can tell just by the feet of the unshod one he is walking much more and my Connie is so slim I can feel ribs with the flat of my hand. The track looks bare but they have green poos with a full barrow between them daily so they are getting plenty to eat but are having to work for it and there are the hedges to nibble on as well. I do feed a small amount of fibre chaff to add supplements and salt to and they share a small slice of hay at night but that’s it. It’s amazing how many scattered piles you can get out of so little hay ? It has been a game changer for my two.

I shared a post recently about someone who has even managed a track around half an acre, it's amazing how well it works isn't it?!

It is surprising how little land you need as long as it’s wide enough for them to move around safely and not get stuck in corners.

The yard / set up I’m moving to - is track round most of the outside. Then 8 segmented field sections used in rotation.

With central hard standing and shelter and water trough and big bale hay.

They the use track to access the grass part that is opened to them. It also gives them a largish space to run if want.

the fatties get put in fat camp but this year I made it more of a track set up. (Not a permanent one and it’s only on grass) It’s been great watching how much more movement they do though and they have space for a good gallop. There’s been such a difference in them. I will never go back to a square patch.

sounds like a perfect setup OP.

I'm hoping to find one near me one day that would work for mine (my main issue is the need for permanent fencing IE netting or post & rail / mains electric wire with 3 or 4 strands (not tape...) as he doesn't have a great deal of respect for temporary fencing). For obvious reasons a lot of yards just starting out with this setup tend to opt for plastic posts & tape to divide it up, especially if the track gets taken down in winter. He has lived on a track before with top notch fencing & thrived there but it was too far away to be a long term solution. Ah well I can dream!
