Has anyone used Equi - N - ice socks or the equivalent and has some feedback.
Not always possible to stand and hose legs after an event and was looking for a nice fox when travelling home. But I’m a sucker for a “gadget” and trying to be sensible! Is anything really better than a cold hose? And ice boots whilst eventing?

Not used the socks but I can highly recommend Ice vibe boots. The boots cool and also massage to reduce soreness and swelling and help boost circulation and stimulate healing. You can put them on a setting prior to exercise to warm up the tendons and ligaments and help prevent injury, setting one or two (there are three strengths of massage).

Obviously when you are on your yard you can keep the ice boots which are provided with the boots in the freezer but at an event you are not able to do so so after exercise such as at an event you can buy instant ice packs that you thump on your hand and shake to activate and put these under the IceVibe boots and put them on the third setting for the massage effect in combination with cold therapy. This is what I used to do with my previous horse after fun rides and ODE's as it benefited them on this setting.

They cool and reduce soreness and swelling and help boost circulation whist stimulating healing. They worked very well for my horse when I was rehabbing from leg injury and the vet said it had most certainly speeded up healing.

Youtube tutorial about using Ice Vibe boots on their various settings

Waste of time - work on evaporation which is a poor cooling agent as only will only cool surface layers and not the bits that need cooling (tendons and ligaments).

I use Horze ice boots but one horse doesn’t like them as quite long so they have ice cube bags and Jay cloth underneath their xc boots.

I wouldn’t waste any money.
Jay cloth, Ice cube bags, held on by your boots for 15-20 mins max.
Cheap. Job done.
Its certainly not a waste of money, that's not a fair statement. Not only does ice vibe help to prevent injury by warming the tendons prior to work out but it also cools them down following a workout. Icevibe cools and treats any injury as well as having an amazing massage action. And you get years worth of use out of them for a variety of horses.

Recommended by William Fox Pitt who uses them on his event horses.

I saw him eventing at the weekend, his lorry was about 2.5ft away from us and he definitely didn't use these on the event horse he had with him at the time... he used an ice boot, but not these ones

Ah well far be it from me to quote a link
but if you look on the IceVibe website it clearly says that he uses them, I assume if not whilst away then at least in the days after he returns from an event.

Not at all, I am only going by my experience. Just because you disagree and have no experience, it is not fair to ridicule my experience.

I've had my pair of Icevibe boots for a number of years now and they really are very effective, like I say my vet was very impressed with my horses healing.

Just because something is not documented on a 'research paper' doesn't mean that it doesn't work or the science behind it isn't effective.

There are reviews on line which on the whole have favourable results from people who have used them and there is some research somewhere which showed thermal imaging before and after but I don't know where to locate it and I'm too busy at present to try to find it.

Less of the eye rolls please, I'm not arguing with you just providing a balanced view for people that might be looking to use them - from something I saw with my own eyes.
It's a tale as old as time that professionals will say they use whatever you pay them to say - people have to make a living after all

I wasn't eye rolling at you, I was eye rolling at something else.
I have found some research that was conducted but I'm not going to show a link as its more than my life is worth.

Thank you everyone! I’m going to go with the jay cloth & icebag combo! It’s great to get peoples opinions as I am a bit of a marketeers dream when it comes to spending on my pony ? so the cheaper and what seems to be most simple/effective option is great news for my bank balance ?

Hi, I have used the Equi-N-Ice bandages and I wouldn't recommend them. However if you want to go down the bandage route, I'd try the Incrediwear exercise bandages. That said you'll never get the temperature reduction that icing offers and I'd recommend Finntack Ice Wraps. I ice every time I ride, as well as competing, and I've lost track of the number of boots, wraps and bandages I've tried and the Finntack wraps are the best I've found. They are quite bulky but they stay very cold and cover the legs as opposed to the ice pocket type boots which can be patchy. Good luck.

For what you want it’s ideal.
Ive spent a fair amount of time behind the scenes out Eventing, up to 5* and virtually everyone at an event uses either purpose made ice Boots or the cheap version I describe. Some still use the boots you soak. I can’t recall anyone who knows anything using the equi ice bandage things

Also sponsored by Horseware ?

I actually used to have Ice Vibes but they were very inconsistent in their cooling so hence I ditched them. Some of the leg would be cold and others not as I don’t think the cold wraps are the best design.

I bought Ice Vibes for my Cob but even the XF weren't wide enough for him and too long in the cannon.
Bought Cryochaps instead and despite him killing a few boots playing "remove the boot" while my back was turned (my own fault for not tying him up) they've saved me hours (probably weeks!) hosing in the past 18 months. Still icing twice daily, and praying tbh at this point :(

My personal preference has always been the neoprene pocket ice boots- nice long ones that can go from the knee/hock to the hoof. They can be a little annoying to fill up, but the big bags of ice always keep really well in an esky. What ever you use, make sure the leg is really well wet first.
I loosely follow the procedure one would take for an injury- rest, ice and then compression (quality stable wraps). 20 minutes of icing, then off, repeat.

LEC was actually answering the OP's question rather than contradicting you. This post was asking about Equi-N-Ice
