Equi-Trek - good or bad?

SOrry if this post has been done before -

I keep coming across posts that go on about how terrible equi treks are and how they have heard horror stories - i see alot out and about at shows, are they really that bad? Not looking to buy one - just they are very expensive to say they dont get good press... what are your experiences?
 
Friend has just bought one and it is fantastic! she does need her discovery to tow it though. It was brand new and my boy went out with hers for the first time out... She has the day which means you have a small tack area to change in.
 
Equi-Trek are very nice. But there is one model where there is a half height barrier between the horse and the living section which appears to encourage horses to try to jump into the living. There have been numerous accidents with horses being seriously injured. There is an optional full height barrier but you have to pay extra for it.
 
I have a Space Trekker and love it. Horse loads and travels better. In fact mine was so good my sister bought a one too and both hers travel well.

Its really useful to have the changing area at front, mine also has a tack locker so saddles are safe and stored better than chucking in back of pickup.

I use either a ford ranger or a toyota hilux to tow. I wouldn't use anything less.
 
Not for me, they are incredibly heavy so give you a very small choice for what can safely pull them. For that reason alone when we were looking for a new trailer we decided to avoid. Add to that their cost and that I have heard less than favourable things about how they last confirms that they aren't for me! If I wanted a more luxurious trailer with living then I would go for a small lorry myself.

VW certainly do a 4X4 that can tow 3500Kg - just like a Defender, Landcruiser etc so no reason why it shouldn't have been safe.
