equi trek- grrr

some of you will know that i'm not equi-trek's biggest fan. anyway, since i bought my trailer nearly 2 years ago my leisure battery/horse shower haven't been working (paid extra for this)- it was tripping out everytime i plugged my car into it

i returned it 5 times and everytime they said they had fixed it. took it to an independent trailer place today and they found where equitrek had put a bolt through some of the wiring and that was shorting the circuit. so now its mended

but has cost me £160 when its not my fault! i know other people are maybe having same issues to get an independent place to check it if you are- equitrek just kept saying it must be my mitsubishi that was at fault...

You should write a letter to equi trek asking them to pay the £160, they may put some money towards it due to the problems youve had worth a try!!

Oh dear - our local dealer is getting in a multi-trekka for us to 'try-out' in the next few weeks... Have heard good and bad things, getting a bit worried now

Would definately go back to them and ask for costs - you can always go to the small claims court - My dad did with Nissan - he had a Patrol with an ongoing mechanical issue which they claimed wasn't there - an independant mechanic wrote report etc Judge took a very dim view of Nissan and awarded in favour of my dad all costs etc.

Shame they don't teach practical stuff at school these days - as I was reading your post I was thinking 'sounds like something is shorting out the wiring that isn't on the bit they replaced..' many a time I've returned things to manufacturers like the brand new car with 'well you can't have been topping up the water then' (new car 400 miles!!??) leak which I insisted was the expansion tank for the radiator either the cap or the bottle itself, to whch the mechanic raised his eyebrows in a 'but your a girl you know nothing' sort of way, but I was right. Seems to me £160 is a bit steep just to fix a tiny fault that could have been tracked down with a meter fairly rapidly IMO, but maybe the wiring was well hidden and it was hard to get to, or do they charge about £80 an hour?

I would ask the repairers if they could kindly write you a report explaining the fault, send Equi-trek Head Office a copy of this with a nice letter explaining what happened (all the history) asking for the £160 as it was a manufacturing fault, and remind them that you will be reviewing your options for your next trailer in a year or so's time.....and I'd be very tempted to cc your local trading standards...and maybe include a copy of everyones posts on this thread on HHO just for good measure

I was seriously considering an equitrek....until yesterday!
I spoke to someone who bought one two years ago and I am appalled by what he told me both about the quality of it and the aftersales service. One small thing he mentioned was the hitchlock broke within a fortnight and they were told it wasn't covered under the warranty and they would have to pay for a new one. There were many other more serious things too (and the shower never worked).
They managed to sell it on for not much less than they paid for it but I am definitely looking for something else now!

Had one and sold it on as I was concerned about build quality, safety etc. Now have a Fautras and really like it but wish I still had the living area though.

I have pretty much ruled out buying one too because of what I have heard. Its interesting that there are always so many second hand ones for sale too!

I was concerned about the build quality, but my horse travels really well in it - after 5 years of trailer and travelling problems.

So, I Love mine and when it falls to bits I will just have it repaired as its cheaper than having a lorry.

I'm on my second Equi-trek, having upgraded a couple of years ago from a Sportstreka to a Showtreka. Yes, there have been a few faults, both in design and manufacture, but overall I like them and would buy another with no hesitation. The horses load and travel well, they're good to tow, great storage space and even quite comfortable to spend the night in. My after-sales service has been superb.

They also hold their value well - my old one was off the dealer's hands within 48 hours of my exchanging it. A lot of people on the endurance scene use them because of the living - cheaper than a lorry and you don't have to bring another vehicle along to use as a crew car.

hmmm...some good ideas folks. i think i might get the place that fixed it to do me a report. i'm not going to hold my breath getting any money out of equitrek tho- have had to threaten them with small claims court before...last year when my axle snapped on me i had to be rescued by the breakdown people- they said i had to pay for recovery as trailer wasn't "roadworthy"- it was only 8 months old and had recently been serviced by equitrek- so i had to pursue equitrek for an accident report as i was refuting that i had to pay for recovery- took me 6 months of them not ringing me back, sending me what i consider threatening letters and telling me i'd been driving recklessly for them to give me an accident report (this only appeared once was given a court date!)- which concluded faulty axle and therefore their fault! worth writing a letter though! am just glad its fixed TBH!!

Interesting comments. I looked at one a fews years back when getting my trailer and although looked like a great idea I didn't buy one as the build quality looked really poor and it looked like the whole thing would fall apart with one good kick. I bought an Ifor 510 instead and 4 years on and a lot of abuse from my horse it still looks and works as good as new when cleaned up!
