Has anybody had trouble with losing wheels from the rear axle of their Equi-Trek Trailer? I have already had a new front axle (subject of a recent recall) to my 4 yo Show-Trekka L trailer. Two weeks ago I lost a rear wheel whilst travelling, with horse, at about 30mph. The wheel flew off like a bullet and over the top of the van following behind me. The wheel-bearing had collapsed causing the complete wheel assembly including the wheel-drum to come away.
Thank goodness, in this case nobody was hurt. However, I urge people to have their rear axle checked. This trailer had been serviced by a main dealer within the last year and had four new tyres. Nothing had been skimped in maintenance. There was absolutely no warning. No difference in drive, no smell or squeaking etc. I was completely unaware of there being a problem. It could have killed other road users let alone me and my horse, had we been travelling any faster.
