I am still not sure if I am using this thing in the correct manner as on occasion it seems to bring his head behind the vertical which is not good and certainly not what I am aiming for.
I have watched the video that comes with the aid but am still not sure I have it set up correctly
It seems to be getting him to work with his head down from about 7mins in but I am still not sure about this aid

I have only ever used a Pessoa but.... Why not try it just a touch looser/longer? He looks more free than before but I can see what you mean. I think it is supporting him well but holding him in a tad too much...

Keep trying to pause your vid but it goes blurred - are you sure the front and back bits are attached to each other correctly? Apologies if they are, but from the vid it looks as though something is hanging down from the ring on the roller, mine makes more of a loop, can't explain it very well, but just can't make it out clearly on the vid.

I use mine quite loosely but it really encourages my ex racer to stretch down.

That is actually what I was wondering too. Whether it is put on like a loop or whether it is clipped to the roller as two separate things.

Hi.

You don't appear to have your equi ami running freely through the roller rings You need to clip the clip to the rings through the roller rings so it slides along and you create a loop. It looks fixed to me, the way you have it:

Then I suggest letting his front end out about 4 inches - he should be encouraged to work low with it. If he is evading it, it is either because it is too tight, or the action of bringing his hocks underneath him is actually hurting him.

There's another video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GKbgW5CZCk which shows the correct fitting.

This.

Nothing should be clipped to the D-ring on the roller. The back (red) part has a clip and ring forming a loop. Un-clip this, pass the rope through the D-ring then reattach the clip to the ring it was originally clipped to. Then clip the front (green) part to the other ring which should still be loose on the loop. You should now have a loop of rope through the D-ring but nothing actually clipped to the D-ring. This will move freely back and forth (as demonstrated on the DVD).

Hope this helps, it is VERY difficult to describe! If not, I will try to take photos.

For what it's worth, I have only used my equi-ami twice so far and my mare is struggling to "get" it and tries to keep her head up, pulling against it. I hope this will resolve as I have only heard good things about the results and she really needs to build some topline.

ETS: hereshoping has beaten me too it! Although, I'm afraid I find that diagram slightly confusing (especially as it has the colours the wrong way around) and I'm fairly confident I am fitting mine correctly ... I would agree that the front part needs to be slightly looser

If you go to 54 secs on the video I posted, it shows how the EA runs through the roller.

Yes - the diagram has the colours the wrong way round! Sorry. Just think that the diagram uses the colours for the spring clips rather than the stops on the EA.

Thank you for the replies it is set up correctly i.e free to move. I think what you can see are the reins as I had not removed them at the start of the session just clipped them on to the top of the roller. However mid way in to the session I removed them as they seemed to be getting in the way.
Ill try the front a little looser as I want to encourage him to stretch down long and low and I don't seem to be quite achieving this at the moment with this set up

I have cropped and enhanced one of the pictures from the other day. This is how I have it set.

Mmm odd one. This doesn't look like my equiami or the pictures of the equiami on the website. Mine is like Hereshoping's diagram (but red behind, green in front as mentioned above) and the loop created at the connection of green and red is horizontal and up to the level of the roller ring - that way the whole thing moves rather than being static. Your version seems to be jabbing him in the mouth and the green bit is too short.

Might be worth asking equiami directly?

I bought it from EquiAmi directly and told them the size o Armas. I was thinking of asking them to have a look at the video.
The red part seems to long as I have to adjust it to its tightest setting other wise it hangs down by his hocks which I am sure is not correct.

Ah. The clip on the end of the red string is clipped to the wrong ring. You need it to go back to its original ring. Seriously, that video link I posted has the correct set up at 54 seconds. I don't know how to do a still but please have a look. It's hard to explain on here.

This is not fitted correctly.
I'll do my best to explain :o

Standing on the near side of your horse;

Hold the green trigger clip in you left hand

With your right hand feed the end brass ring of the red cord through the lowest D ring on the roller and clip the green trigger clip to this ring

Pull the red trigger clip through the D ring as well and it should be able to hang down loose before clipping it back onto the other brass ring on the red cord

The fixed piece of red cord should move freely through the D ring on the roller

The red cord with the trigger clip clipped on the rear ring should be hanging under the D ring

Hope this makes sense, I don't even think about 'how to' put it on now so I've had to go through it in my head in slow motion.

Also you might have better results if you don't attach the lunge line to the bit.

You have it connected wrongly. The top clip on your pic should attach back to the ring on the right of the picture to make a loop.

You are all correct I have got it wrong dooooh I can see now that the red clip should clip back to the red ring which would give the devise more freedom to move.
Thank you all for the input.

Well done guys and girls for sorting this out, it's really difficult to explain it on here without actually showing it for real. It is such a great piece of kit that has worked wonders with all my team of ExRacehorse turned Eventers and I wouldn't be without mine now. Good luck one and all hope you reap the benefits of it as I have!
