There were a mixture of suggestions - the most popular being that no gadgets are needed - just a lunge line, cavesson and the ability to judge if your horses quarters are correctly engaged. There were some suggestions of using side reins. I've tried these once or twice before and although pony felt much better working into a contact on the lunge, he was a bit stiff the next day so I don't think he was working correctly.

I think, from the rave reviews I'll be investing in one. I've got a lesson booked with a classical trainer on Sunday and lunging is one of the thing's we'll be covering so I'll get her thoughts before investing in this kit but it looks likely that I'll buy one!

Not loving the price as i will have to add carriage on top to get it to me! :(

Also due to recent circumstances (some idiots left Tackroom open....) I do not have a roller....so would increase the cost...
Oh yeh and no lunge line....:mad:

However, as soon as I have funds I will be investing in one of these for my 'one sided' ex trotter! :D
 
I have one. I think the fundamental idea is very good in encouraging activity from the back end without allowing the head to lean on the gadget. My only complaint is that I don't think it is good quality. The string is thin, there is no protection for the hind legs which rub on the string all the time, and the brass clips went green after the first couple of uses (admittedly thanks to all this rain). I wish I could have an equi-ami with pessoa quality and fluffy sheepskin...
 
Abacus you must have it fitted to tightly as it never rubs when adjusted and used correctly in a soft contact.The rope is very strong yet light to create a light responce from the horse so why would you use a heavy rope? I know that brass goes green in the rain but a small price to pay I think for all the other benifits my horses get from using this system
 
Im not very experienced with gadgets etc, how exactly does having a rope round your horses hind legs make it engage properly? does it make them pick up there hind quarters better? anyone help me?

I agree it's thin for a reason , it's too tightly fitted if its rubbing .
 
Am considering investing in one of these. Has anyone used on for a horse that is very resistant in the neck. Pony tries his best to develop a muscle under his neck and will go above the side reins. He goes reasonably in the draw rein lunging method but I use this on a headcollar. As soon as I try something that acts on the bit he resists.
 
Have to slightly agree with abacus, was thinking while cooling down with my equi aim at cooling down length that 20 mins of back legs rubbing against the string will eventually cause a rub :-(
