I am thinking of getting a equiami training aid for my for year old ,he needs to devlope topline and muscle , any good/bad reveiws on it , is there kinder option ?? is there a cheaper option ? and can i do 2 ine lunging with it ??(my horse hates one line )

THANKS:D:D

Why would you do 2 line lunging with an equiami? Seems pointless buying one. The whole idea is the gadget does the "hard" work for you while you stand in the middle tripping over your own feet.

If your horse "hates" one line, carry on doing two lines, does exactly the same job. Or, teach your horse to get over himself and work with one.

isnt equiami supposed to help get the horse working though his back ???(i am a complete numty on this :o:o)so correct me if i am wroung but is a equiami the same as 2 line lunging ??? he needs to develope top line and to work in a round , soft outline

I have one and I believe the principle is that the horse can't lean on it but has to hold himself and work correctly. My horse does appear to work well in it and I like the fact that he is able to stretch down without getting whacked in the hocks.

You could use two lines but I wouldn't bother, probably with the equiami on it would feel different for your horse anyway.

Only thing against it is that I think it is awful quality. Thin lines and nasty little 'brass' clips where the coating is coming off already.

Yes it is but to be honest, you can achieve this with just using two lines. If you think about the principles of it... It's practically the same. These gadgets allow you to work the horse without the faff of using two lines.

Are you already lungeing using two lines with a bit and a roller? You don't need a bit, you can just use a plain cavesson. I prefer using two lines as I am in control and have the freedom to ask for more or less impulsion depending on what I feel. The gadgets such as equiami or Pessoa apply rather a constant pressure and you wouldn't train yourself in this way. Why do it to a horse.

If you want to develop topline musculature, impulsion, collection and relaxation is the key. The horse has to able to relax after short periods of intense exercise. The impulsion will not come from a gadget, it comes from your technique. If you cannot ask the horse forward, then you need to work on that rather than buy a gadget. Unless you get the horse moving forward consistently in a WORKING rhythm, you will still have no correct topline no matter what you use.

This ^^^ it is all about the technique, no gadget will work if the person holding the lunge line is not asking for correct work.

I'm curious as to why you are lunging a yearling?

I read it as a four year old, missing the u in four.

i dont have acess to a instructor and i dont think i will be able to do that be myself :o he is a trotterX and used to race apparently :confused:
so has no center of balance and runs around with his head in the air :eek:
sorry for the miss spells , stupid keyboards not working :p

Hmmm... OP, I'm not going jump to conclusions of the bridge dwelling kind, but I am beginning to wonder what on earth you are doing with this horse?

I would start useing a lunging rope and one line and use walk a lot ,over poles dotted about the school before moving on to the equiami which does not have the horse under constant pressure .
The lunging rope passes over the wither through the fore legs and too the bit , adjust the length at the wither .
You need to work horses of the type you describe very carefully and gradually the muscular changes are huge and you must take a very long term approach to the changes.

Refering back to this quote i can honestly say that i have not had a problem with mine finding it an excellent quality and the customer service is fantastic as they are willing to help and ask any questions you may have.

the fittings are brass plated but there is an option to buy it with solid brass fittings if you want to pay more (brass is very expensive) and why would you use thick heavy rope when you can use light marine quality British made rope that will remain good whatever the weather does to it! This gets a lighter response from the horse. They do stand the test of time.

Feel free to pm me if you have any questions

I have to say, I have used the equi ami for 3 years now, with my ex racehorse,, and have not only found it so beneficial but also its as good now as it was when I bought it 3 years ago, so comments about cheap quality are totally unfounded, its so easy to use and to fit, and would recommend it to anyone

I never said anything about quality claireblount...:confused:

I can honestly say I love mine. My TB likes to stick his head in the air and parade around d on end of the lunge line but with the EquiAmi he works beautifully. Been using it about 6 weeks and the difference is definitely noticeable, he's much rounder when schooled, working through his back and is just starting to canter without hollowing. I can't recommend them enough.

It was me that commented on the quality. Fair enough to have thin lines but I would rather some padding on the bit around the hind quarters, it looks as if it may rub, so a sheepskin pessoa-y thing would be nice. And the clips are strong enough, but why brass plate them as it flakes off within weeks? It is an expensive item so the parts could be just a little better.

I bought the combined lunging/riding aid. I have never used the riding part - I put it on once and found that the clips that hang from the bit down between the front legs are positioned so that they clang together as the horse walks, especially when he put his head down. It was off-putting and spooky and I didn't leave it on.

As for how the lunging aid works though, I think it is very good indeed.

I don't think there is any need to argue over this... I can clearly see that this was a troll post to get us all arguing amongst each other. Wished I'd realised sooner
