Heyy, I am new here and I am looking for an equiball for my friends horse for her birthday. Her horse has had one for about 10 years and it's wearing really thin now?

Can anybody help me? I think its discontinued but i wondered whether anyone knew anywhere maybe in america or somewhere i could get one from? xx

What's an equiball??? Is it one of those hard plastic balls with a "handle" on that the horse can grab in its teeth and chuck about? Or do you mean a snack-ball that you put treats in? Think you can get both these in any decent tack shop. Or is it something totally different?

By the way, welcome to the Forum hun x

They're great! My horse had one for years.

Not sure where you could buy one now, but if you try phoning the Royal Dick Vet School in Edinburgh (0131) 650 6253. They were the people who initially did trials on horse boredom with them - they may know if you can still get one (or they may have one around themselves).

If you have no luck there, try an equine dodecahedron, which most tack shops can get. They are slightly easier for the horse than the Equiball, but the same idea. Come in two sizes and various colours.

Ooh thank you very much for your help... will that number take me straight to the people who know about them or will i need to ask for some special department like? xxx

Hi,

The number I gave is the main reception for the Large Animal Hospital and Practice. If you mention what it is and that they trialled it, they will re-direct you (hopefully) to someone who is in the know. The link you used is actually Edinburgh University's site.

If you have no joy with them, Drum Farm Feeds and RH Millers in Edinburgh both sell the equine dodecahedron (0131) 654 2185 and (0131) 660 3921 respectively. I bet the Dick Vet have still got one around somewhere, tho!!

Good luck and let me know if I can be of any further help.

Okay thank you so much for your help, I think I will ring the first one tomorrow

I do appreciate ot, thanks again x

I wouldn't recommend the decatheron either as it lets the food out to quickly. I can vouch for the snackaball though, it is brilliant and my horse actually leave his tea (complete with apples, dates and carrots) in favour of his snackaball which just has cheap pony nuts in it!! When he has it emptied he goes back and eats his tea!!

If you manage to find one, please let me know. I have had one for years and it is finally starting to show that it has been abused by clydesdales and would love another one and maybe one also for Chancer who kills snack ball tops every few months.

The ultimate snack ball - others look a bit daft with a heavy horse.

No I haven';t yet, still searching

That kind person above gave me a number to call however I am a real nervour person and talking to people i dont know on the phone is real hard for me but i will do it lol... fancy ringing it and letting me know what they say? :P xxxxxxxx

I might get mum to do it

Not the same as the pic posted for the Equiball but Stubbs do a Rock n Roll Ball:

The pic on the add isn't very good, and I couldn't find a better one with googling but in the flesh they seem a fair bit studier than the snakballs (and have no lids). They are also very reasonably priced.

Personally I have snakballs but would have got one of these at Burghley if I could have managed to carry it around!!

Sorry, you should have said. Do you want me to do some investigation for you - the Dick Vet in Edinburgh is right next door to me - hence why I had the phone number, etc!!! lol

The office is not open at weekends, except for emergencies. If I don't have time to do it tomorrow, will definitely see what I can find out for you on Monday.

I can relate to this - my large footed cob smashes the snackaballs and twisty lids (and the walls of his stable almost). I would like to try this kind of ball too.
