Just a question really, has anyone used them? do they work to keep mud fever at bay?
What about turning out all day in them?

When I used to work at a livery yard one of the girls there had them for her horse so I used to put them on/take them off. All I can say is they didn't fit very well (kept slipping down) so didn't stop the legs from getting muddy. I don't think her horse actually suffered from mud fever it was more of a preventative measure. But it was enough to put me off ever buying them for my horse who did used to get mud fever (luckily she seems to have grown out of it now).

Thank you, Think I'm going to get some and give them a try, girls suffering with this wet weather so need to try somehting!

I've used equichaps in the past but don't rate them at all in wet weather.. great for a bit of protection if the grounds hard, but they soak up water like a sponge. I keep mine for summer/frozen ground use now and use premier equine ones when its wet. They are fab.

I think we bought Equilibrium ones for one of ours a few years back, they were supposed to help protect against mud fever. Normally I highly rate their products but honestly, I might as well have taken £50 and set it on fire

I agree - they are dreadful.

My TB has always suffered with mud fever, I have tried EVERYTHING and thought i'd cracked it with pig oil but this year he got it worse than ever. I have had to give the equichaps another go as I think they are the lesser of all evils, they keep some mud out but not all and take forever to dry so washing them every night isn't an option....... *bangs head off brick wall*

i tried them with my old horse, they worked to a certain extent but i found that when it got really muddy they turned up at the bottom so mud did get on the bottom of his legs...not as bad as they would have without the chaps but still not what i was expecting. my other horse has four white legs and does suffer with mud fever :( i cant use the chaps on him as he has had stem cell which has caused one of his legs to be permenatly fatter then the other and the chaps dont fit round it! i just use udder cream which i find works ok.
