Equichaps ????????

Hi now i am pretty old school so if I have needed anything on my horses legs then I have bandaged. A lot of liveries are now using Equichaps and these are all pretty new to me and in a lot of cases I don't see the point. I see young horses wear these at night to keep the legs warm ....already.

I can see the benifit for an older horse who's legs may fill etc but on younger beasts ???? I could be wrong can some one with more experience with these say how and when they use them .

Can't see the point for young, healthy horses.

Obviously useful for an older horse.

I used the field ones when they first came out. Spent a fortune (I was poor then) and he came back with three on, all damaged!

They're designed to prevent knocks and strikes, but they shouldnt be warn for any longer than 12 hours. Can imagine they take a long time to dry in winter!

If they fit snug they're great - but if they're not quite 100% they fall down/slip.

I have them for both mine, one vetran mare, and 11year old cob who's worn them since he was about 7 as had problems with legs filling overnight.
Work a treat as much less hassle than bandages!

I bought some to use on my six year old, he’s come in from 24/7 turn out to being in overnight and his back legs are filling, as my friend turns him out for me in the morning I didn’t think it fair to ask her to un-bandage his legs as well (heaven knows I feel guilty enough asking her to rug change!) so instead she has 8 bits of velcro to undo. He is also quite babyish so I did worry about him chewing bandages during the night, and ending up have unravelled bandages to tread on… plus they’re much quicker to apply than bandages so save me time in the evenings too.

I’m hoping that his legs will adjust to being in overnight again and he won’t have to wear them all winter.

I’m also debating getting another pair and using them for travelling as I hate traditional travel boots
