I saw the Equicore a while ago and thought it looked interesting but couldn't justify the cost.

I have just seen a cheaper version by bungee bands and thought it might be worth investing in one.

I thought the cost of a couple of lessons/clinics/competitions that are cancelled due to corona virus would pay for one and it might help me make maximum use of my time while on lock down.

So has anyone used one? Any reviews? Any thoughts on their use? Any tips?

I don’t know specifically which one you are referring to, but my chiro vet has seen many equicore rip offs which were purchased by clients trying to save money. Without exception, she found them to have been very poorly designed and made, not just ineffective but actually detrimental to the horse in use, sometimes to the point of being harmful.

I have an equicore, it was very spendy to buy, but it was worth every penny. I use it about three times a week.

I have equi core, and it is very useful, particularly for the big horse, because he's quite wiggly and evasive when working without a rider, so I never used to really bother. But with the bands he uses himself much better and is much easier to keep straight.

I think the biggest problems with the cheaper brands are the bands rolling up and moving. Both of which make them far less effective and if you've got a sensitive horse then it could cause rather more excitement than you were after!

Having seen both the cheaper versions and the equicore in action I opted for the equicore as the cheaper ones just didn’t offer the same resistance. I kinda figured I’d only end up buying the equicore eventually anyway so may as well just cut to the chase and save the wasted pennies.

Can't see anything obviously wrong with it. Tbf I don't think the original one had proper IP protection so it is not unreasonable that a cheaper, but very close copy could have been made

I have to say I struggle to justify the cost of the original, I have seen obviously inferior versions but this looks good, I am very tempted.

My physio has a roll of Theraband in the boot of her car. Measured a length for my mare and it was about 2 metres. I think it cost me less than a fiver.
I have considered this option but then I would need to cobble together a pad with clips and I don't think my sewing machine can handle it!

I use an equicore on my two - at least twice a week on each horse over a year so it has more than paid for itself. Both horses have hind joint problems and before the equicore their hindquarters were visibly weak and ineffective. However I do use the equicore in conjunction with stretches, poles & other in hand ground work. And pre lockdown they were hacked out in walk on nearby hilly tracks.

I have a diy version. Stretchy bandage tied to a roller ?. I have to say it’s worked wonders for my lazy cob with a dippy back. I was stuck in the cycle of trying to get him fit enough for riding, but him being the laziest thing on four legs, so it was proving impossible. I noticed a difference in a couple of weeks and will be getting it out again soon. (Has an aside, has anyone else’s fields gone from swamp to rock hard, with no in between?). I just couldn’t justify the cost of the real thing, but if money was no object I’d probably buy one.
