I'm after a new rug for my youngster but don't want to spend lots because he will probably grow out of them quickly. I've seen a few Equidor rugs that looked reasonably priced, are they worth it or do they rip and leak in 5 min?

I bought one last summer and the buckles are cheap (not stainless steel) so the bar at the back just snaps off them meaning you cant fasten the rug. I haven't bought cheap rugs before but thought id risk it for a growing youngster, lesson learnt.

I've always managed to find good quality makes on ebay either in the sale or nearly new 2nd hand (eg tried on but didn't fit). This is better than a new cheapo one IME. For my grey I managed to find a new medium Rhino Wug for £40 and a new Domonick for £36 (which still fits her). I managed to get a nearly new medium Rhino for my gelding for £60 and it looked completely new to me and I suspect that it had only been tried on. Buying winter rugs in the summer seems to help when you are looking for bargains.

I have 2 light weights and a fly rug, the light weights aren't much cop but the fly rug is good. I ordered another one recently in fact, but I missed the courier and by time I went to collect it it got returned to the company.

The company have not been helpful, first they wanted a forensic analysis of my whereabouts as to why I missed their courier who didn't even hang on to the rug for week. The company wanted to charge me £16.50 to have the rug re-dispatched to cover their costs, so I asked for a refund less their "costs" and to date have not refunded my money or dispatched the rug, so personally I wouldn't touch them again with a barge pole.

I have equidor rugs and really like them, as well as found them really helpful. I found them as my pony destroys her rugs so didn't want to spend too much money. I have 2 stable rugs, a LW turnout, a hw turnout and a fly rug, and all have lasted really well. I have had them since about September and they lasted all winter which was more than my weatherbeeta managed! Others on the yard have them as well and also really like them.

Ok, I feel it is only fair to take back my comment about the company I have been dealing with, they have in fact sorted it out in a way I feel is fair (i had to pay postage for it be sent back out, but not the other charges) and so happily, my horse has his lovely fly rug!
