its my horses first time at equifest this year and im already nervous incase we end up in an evening performance. does anyone know any good ways to desensitize a horse to the noise and atmosphere there? she doesnt miss a thing!

ear plugs are a good start. But lots of very large shows too. Why don't you take a look at a local county, BSPS or NPS show?

I've noticed music at a lot of these shows so a radio in loud-ish in the stable would be a good idea

Then of course trying to get to some evening shows, even if show jumping ones ask your local place if they will just let you stand your horse at the doors

I don't think she'd allow me to put anything in her ears she is so protective of her ears yet not head shy the awkward donkey! And will try get her out as many places as we can luckily have a sound system at the yard and music from pre Hoys clinics will have to have a twirl!

We had one that did his first evening performance at Equifest last year. We hadn't prepared at all as never expected him to get that far! He's a very stressy animal, liable to naughty flids but actually handled the atmosphere fine. It's a large enough area to get out of the way if necessary without being nose to tail and isn't too spooky.

Go in there, own the ring, flick your jacket tails, ooze confidence and love every second!
