Does anyone have one and are they worth the price?

I have a horse that can be cold backed and was thinking of treating him to one.

(And yes, all relevant back checks have been made!)

I have one for my mare, she seems to really enjoy it. Bought mine as she seems to have problems with long periods of semi-retirement (I'm at uni) and ends up with a sore back after a hoon in the field.
 
Some one is selling one on facebook and I can't find it now! How annoying I was going to post you the link!

I use one on mine and I think its good. I would say the change is huge just that he likes it and I see it as a maintenance tool really.
 
I bought mine when I had a coldbacked horse - also bought the magnetic pad aswell. I love both of them. I now use the massage pad on my new young horse after I have ridden to help relax her back etc
 
My horse seems to live his and my instructor says his stride length is improved after wearing it , always use it before dressage tests
 
We have one and all the horses love it. We mainly use it after we ride but sometimes before. They seem to find it so relaxing. Have also used it on the lorry on a tricky traveller and it worked a treat - really relaxed her.
 
Fantastic had mine about 2 years now use it to warm back up when riding even just for 10 mins it lasts for about 20mins then switches off. Also this week I have bought a william funell magnetic rug with neck its fab and only £90 I say only as some are £200 plus !! I also have used the NEW (New Equine Wear) magnet boots and leave on over night. they say you can leave the rug on over night as well.I also have McTimoney out ever 3 months as my boy hunts twice a week up hill and down dale ! jumping and galloping this is my routine also he is on Top spec senior hope this helps.
 
I am looking at this for the same reason. Does anyone have any more definite eperience with a cold backed horse? I have a horse who bucks when the temperature is low and not when it is warm. Does anyone have a horse like this who stops bucking if they use one?

Yes mine stops bucking and his back do's not rise but as I said before I do use a McTimony every 3 months as well .

Thanks, that's very interesting. Unfortunately, a physio this summer sent mine into spasm with the minor manipulation she did, so I'm not letting anyone touch his back again. I think he has nerves very close to the surface, somehow, because she's a List A physio and well recommended.
 
Cptrayes - I have the same problem with mine in the cold and bucking - in the summer he is a lot less tense and works better through his back, so will let you know if it makes a difference!

Was it a McTimony as it is very softly done and she uses a laser which he loves, I am sorry that you have had a bad experience but I cannot speak more highly for my lady ,McTimony is different to a Physio it do's the whole body look it up and have a looksy .

Not with the massage point but one of my liveries in the past was cold backed and would also buck at the beginning.

She used to warm her up by standing in the stirrups for the first ten minutes or so in walk trot and canter only after this initial process could she sit down and start to school.

Thanks Leviathan. I wouldn't dare stand in the stirrups :D I manage by lunging him first, but in the dark I can't do that. My little barn that I ride in is too small to lunge inside to get him moving. I'm about to rig up infra-red heat lamps in his stable, and I hope to goodness that works. He's like Jekyll and Hyde with the temperature - two completely different horses depending on how cold it is!
 
I have recently bought one and very pleased. I have a three year old filly who was very reactionary to any spinal pressure. Could not find anything wrong with her at all and no kissing spine. She wears it every day, sometimes twice a day and all flinching from pressure has gone. I also use it on the other horses and they love it.
We also got the hand machine and when a horse had an abscess put that in the boot on her leg, and the pus poured from the foot.

Well worth the money and I will use it on anything whether they need it or not!
