Anyone fed these
I have a cob x that has to be shut off the grass for 12 hours a day he is in an area that has a pole barn and a large outside walk about area where he can see the other horses but I wondered if one of these would be a boredom breaker they say they are low calorie lo sugar and ok for horse prone to weight gaih and or laminitis .
He can get a wee bit footy if left on grass 24/7 do during spring and summer is kept off grass for part of the day.
please don't suggest a muzzle as I just don't think its a way for a horse to live .

Yes but only as a treat, they last with a determined tb for about 10 minutes so don't break the boredom for long.

Soaked hay in a small holed haynet will give you the lowest calories for maximum effort.

I agree with what Criso said.

These compacted blocks of forage are a nice idea but in reality they either don't last long at all, that's if the horse get it and finish the whole thing within minutes, or they're not interested in it much, take a few chomps and then don't touch it again. I've tried it a few times with my horse and he doesn't like them, regardless of make/contents.

If you did want to try them, do you know that Simple Systems sell a 20kg bag of them (i.e. 20 blocks of 1kg each) for £16.00? You can have the grass ones or lurcerne ones.

I have one with the mini hayney, my horse managed to undo his and then eat the lot in about 10 seconds. Prior to that it just made his angry. Wouldn't bother again.

There's alfalfa in them just incase this is something you're avoiding.

They lasted longer in the wee nets with mine but nowhere near long enough to break any boredom!

Halleys do blox that are cheaper, last longer and "pure" if there are ingredients you're avoiding.

I found a snack ball filled with high fibre nuts and unmolassed chaff, to slow down the nuts getting out, to be longer lasting entertainment while on box rest

Are you sure? - the ones I bought said Timothy grass then a list of added herbs and plants. Not bought them for a while though.

I've tried other brands (Halleys and Feedmark) and the nets but Mr tb waste disposal system makes short work of them all.

He's a bit special though. He's an expert at snack balls and has worked out the minimum effort of positioning the hole and the making minimal movements right and left to release the snacks. Someone let him have access to one of those licks in a tub. Instead of licking he trashed the whole container by throwing it and banging it on the wall and floor till it came out and broke up. Then he ate huge chunks of it at a time

My other tb is one who is not interested like npage123 mentioned. Sniff, small nibble and then if its on the floor step on it.

the vitamunches just sort of disintegrate into powder and mostly end up on the floor. Halleys do a straw/timothy block-actually find they last longer if you soak them and then feed them in a bucket. Use them in the winter when we have snow cover.

I had a horse that worked out the snack ball that way lol! he sounds clever :)

Watching my horse destroy a Vitamunch was one of the funniest things I've seen him do - it's just a teeny tiny block of hay, for almost the price of a full-sized bale! It disappeared in about ten minutes. I won't bother again! :D

Got some friom Simple systems .
Fed in one of their nets I hung it opposite his hay net in the pole barn area after he finished his hay net he nibbled it.It lasted him about 3 hours I have done that for 2 days now and I am pleased with the time it takes him to nibble on it.
He isn't a particularly greedy horse just a very very good doer.
I was quite pleased with that so will hang one up day times for him .Over night he has company as one of the other horses comes off the grass over night in the corrall with him so they mutual groom and have a hay net each.

If you can suspend it in some way, so that it isn't against a wall or anything else, they can't get any bite on it and this slows them down significantly. Make sure it's safe tho, so they can't strangulate themselves!!

It is hung on the side of a circular pillar so it travels round and makes it difficult to hold it against anything.
He had hours of amusement.

That's brilliant, glad he likes it! Maybe you could see what happens if you hang up a large turnip or swede? Or scatter loads of small bits of carrots or e.g. grass nuts all over the floor, for him to seek out and hoover up?

My mare loves the Vitamunch blocks but she eats them very quickly and that is in one of the Equillibrium small nets that you can buy with them! I then bought Halleys blox which last longer but she ends up biting through the small holed net so a hole is big enough for it to drop on floor then she can eat it quicker.

Mine gets a Simple Systems brix occasionally during winter. Depending on flavour, it can last from 5 minutes to forever. 5 minutes for Lucibrix, forever for Meadowbrix. She absolutely loves the Meadowbrix if soaked overnight in hot water though. I think they're reasonably good value and a LOT cheaper than those Vitamunch ones.

Mine is still enjoying the simple systems and they are lasting a few hours I also ordered some Equilibrium Vitamunch from a different supplier they managed to screw up my order and only delivered 1 pack instead of 3 so when I rang they refunded ALL my money and I got to keep the 3 free of charge.
I think the simple systems are better value so will carry on with those
