Maybe there are others who feel the same, but with so many different supplements to choose from you really don't know which is best for your horse. I know there must be some level of trial and error but I like to k ow which is most likely to.help before wasting money on something useless. Anyway, I brought a tub of glucosamine plus msm from a friend recommendation and as I was getting to the end of the tub I had a look at their other products, of which there is a lot. So I called them to see which would be most beneficial for my girly, so obviously I get told that the best is cortaflex which at 60 pounds a tub is not going to happen any time soon, so I asked why it is so much better than the glucosamine. The answer to this was that only 2% of the glucosamine actually gets absorbed!! Why are they selling this and tAKING people's money for a product that basically ends up as expensive manure??

I know what you mean. I'm sure when I did my research (a couple of years ago£ that I read somewhere it was useless without condroitin

At the time I chose vet vits. Have just started feeding it again as a preventative for new mare

I've had mine on Suppleaze Gold for some years.
I came across a voucher that gave 10% off on first purchases, so decided to try Cortaflex as they didn't sell the Gold.
On paper, the Gold has more of the active ingredient, in theory, I have seen a marked improvement on Cortaflex.

Odd!

The research is all out there if you want to look before you buy.

That. It's not a shock and if you read up on the scientific work it's all out there. If you take the word of people on Internet forums then you pays your money and takes your chances. Lots of horsey products are like this.

If you read the human studies on glucosamine, you find that all the research involves glucosamine sulphate. And yet they put glucosamine hydrochloride in a lot of horse supplements.

Maybe none of it really works. But I made sure to get a glucosamine sulphate supplement for my horse as at least there is some science behind it rather than none!!

Robinsons do a glucosamine sulphate supplement that is very cheap.

I've tried several different supplements at the top of the range, none of which made any difference until I tried Cortaflex. There has been a marked improvement in the mobility of both horses currently taking it. I'd love to say it was a waste of money as it's so expensive but unfortunately, I can't.

it has to 1) be absorbed into the gut, 2) magically make it to the necessary joints.

I have fed one in the past, I won't again despite both dentist and physio enquiring if he was on anything last week (we'll see what the vet says this week ;) )

I use Cortavet which is stronger than Cortaflex and it definitely gives a significant improvement for my boy. I buy it from Petmeds and it's not too bad price wise - usually around £60 for a tub that lasts me roughly 3 months.

Research I've done actually disagrees with you :).

The sodium levels in sulphate are too high for my liking and hci is more stable so doesn't need it added

I did the research on line years ago and found a site that sold 20 gallon drums of the stuff for about £20. Like most of these things they take a basic ingredient, package it, market it and make loads of money. Every week there is another hair product with some cod scientific ingredient, to make ££££. My main concern is where the collagen, chrondrotin and glucosamine come from, I dislike the idea of feeding animals to animals,

I know wiki is not always accurate but basically its what I discovered.
