Good evening, I know joint supplements have been done to death but would be very interested in your opinions on this one. Which is the better spec do you think and what have your experiences been with either or both of them. Thanks in advance.

Mine is on Equine Answers Premier Flex and I really rate it. Found it far better than the other's I've tried!

Thanks for your reply MM. Would you mind if I asked you what other joint supplements you have used in the past.

For a start most joint supplement companies are not transparent with their ingredients, they don’t legally have to tell you how much they are including so you have no idea if they even meet minimum daily amounts. Also very few have any clinical research behind them. The only ones that do specifically say what they include that I’ve come across are science supplements and feedmark. However do your research as a lot of companies use clever marketing to trick you into thinking there is something “proven” to work. If yoj ask the company to specify how much they actually contain, most won’t tell you which speaks volumes.

Science Supplements flexibility plus and the professional range have clinical research to support their products in general, I wouldn’t use anything else now despite them being pricey. I just don’t see the point in throwing money at a supplement that hasn’t even got the minimum amounts to do anything. What are you planning to use it for? Arthritis? Stiffness? Preventative? Diagnosed lameness?

I really like the chart in the link above but there is an assumption there that more = better.

There's usually a limit to how much can be absorbed in one meal, sometimes too much reduces absorption later (as with iron in humans), the form of the vits/minerals makes a difference, you may be causing an imbalance by providing them, etc, etc.

If I was choosing one I'd give equimins a go just because I know several people who swear by it. I'd get a friend over to see my horse then get her over a few months later to see if she sees a difference. If it was anything beyond a bit of stiffness I'd see what the vet thought first.

Dr Malin who did the chart above says if you don’t notice a difference in 7-14 days then the joint supplement isn’t going to do anything for you and there is no point continuing with it x

Thank you for your reply. Its just for maintenance for a competition horse. I have heard good things about both supplements and was just looking to see what people on here thought of both of them. Thanks.
