Good Afternoon,

It might not be the correct place for this question, so apologies if not. Can anyone advice the best way of finding Equine apprenticeships. My daughter is currently in her GCSE year and would love to follow a career with horses. We have log onto the GOV.UK apprenticeship site, but wanted to know if the apprenticeships are advertised anywhere else. We are in the Bicester area (Oxon).

Many thanks fro your help.

Richard

Look up agricultural colleges to look for courses ..contact local sixth firm college who will have an apprenticeship officer and may have contacts…but as a mum with a daughter if you can persuade her to have horses as a hobby and pursue other work to pay for it she may thank you in twenty years time 🙂

Gov website, Haddon and Keats will all advertise, and which discipline they are. Some will also be advertised on equine job websites like yard and groom :)

For racing ones, BRC should be able to guide you.

We are in Northern Ireland (should be the same but isn't always!) and our yard partner with the local college to offer BHS stages as an apprenticeship with day release to the college (works out about 1 day every 2 weeks though they often group them together less frequently)

Speaking as someone involved in the running of a yard (though not the equine professional myself, I'm in accountant) there is not a massive amount of respect for the courses where the pupil is based at the college. There is not enough practical involved, and often unrealistic expectations of what roles they can get after their course. If your daughter is really keen, pursuing BHS exams while working on a yard will open more doors. but more importantly give a genuine grounding in what it is actually like, rather than what a college think it should be like. Its a hard life even at the top end of the sport.

I'm afraid I'd be another one trying to talk her out of it if you can!

Haddon training have lots of level 2 and level 3 apprenticeships at different kinds of yards ranging from riding schools to 5* eventers so their website would be a good place to start:
