Hello all, hoping to pick at your combined brains here!

I've a photo of myself riding my favourite horse from my former riding school, that I'd like to have on my wall. The photo itself is of poor quality and no good for printing and framing, so I thought that it would be nice to commission a painted version.

I love loose watercolour paintings and think that this would suit the photo, so wondered if anyone could recommend any equine artists that they know of?

I've done a fair bit of Googling and this throws up a lot of phenomenal artists, all of whom are way out of my price range! I'm hoping someone might know an amateur artist or a hobbyist who sells their work a little cheaper than the pros?

My budget would be relatively low, somewhere between the £50/£70 mark - hence my looking for someone who paints on the side and not as their main income!

Any help greatly appreciated ?

First thought that springs to mind is to pop this in The Club House and ask if anyone has any recommendations.

An alternative could be approaching colleges or 6th form students who are studying art? I know my DD did a few pieces for friends whilst at school to earn a bit of money.

An alternative would be to contact your local artists society, library or museum to see if they can help.

I love loose watercolour too. In fact I'm trying to become brilliant at it but I'm still in the screaming, tearing-out-hair stage. It's a great choice IMO.

Hope you find someone.

Great idea on contacting local colleges and art societies, thank you!

My friend has just done a lovely picture of my mare, head and shoulders. Its done in those coloured pencils though. She is on Facebook and I can give you her name if you would like. She does it in her spare time for quite a few people.

Oh lovely! It would be great to see her work if you're happy to send me a link to her FB? Feel free to send over DMs if you prefer ☺️

Her name is Jen Baldwin Murphy. Look at her FB page as she has just done a drawing of someone's dog and it is really lovely.

I have portraits of my horses and my dog from Shannon Burns SBurns Artwork. They are watercolour and ink. I love that they are accurate but not formal like a traditional painting.

but I think she's winding down commissions unfortunately. Still may be worth an enquiry

This one is my dog

Ah I love these, thank you. I'll see if she is still doing commissions!
