So basically I've desided to take a bit of a risk with getting my next horse, instead of buying one through adds I am going to get one at the auctions. Or more specifically the meat market, a few years ago a friend got a 2 yo cob who had been breed for the meat market and he is now an amazing little horse. Obviously I have no idea what a horse from here will end up like, and this could end up being a massive disaster but I'm determined to give it a go. My friend got hers from a place called Pannel? (think its somewhere in yorkshire, not 100% sure). So basically has anyone any experience with these markets, & can anyone point me in the direct of other markets & where they are/websites/etc.

I suspect people will think I'm either mad, or hopeing to get a good horse on the cheap - I AM NOT, I know what I am in for after helping my friend with her boy.

So thankx for any help x

York is this Friday and the catalouge is on line now. You will need to register to log in and see it. I've had a quick look and there seems to be a few interesting horses depending on age and height you want. I have bought from there before, impulse, buys mostly!!!!!!

Hi there

Please please be buyer beware at these sales - I have been going to Melton for the last 12 months and I can confirm (no names as I dont want my knee caps removing) that there are a couple of very unscrupulous dealers there who have bits of kids riding horses round in the ring and I no 100% that two of the horses I have seen this summer had been given away only days before to these people....the dealers (posing as a person willing to give a horse a companion home)

One horse was advertised on preloved a stunning warmblood called Joe and the other a lovely little black fell mare who was on freeads!

I bought a lovely youngster from a sale a few weeks back - bred in the purple but I spoke to the seller who was also the breeder.......so I took a chance as he was only 12months old.

Insist on checking the passport before considering bidding - Ive really had my eyes opened as to what these people will do to make a few quid.
