Equine bedding for cat litter.

I usually use wood pellets from Pets at home for cat litter so I thought perhaps, Aquamax or the like would be a good alternative as we are trying to save £ where possible. Feed shop didnt have any but did have Megazorb so thought I would give that a try. So far so good so wanted to share with you all. Although it isnt going to save me lots of £££, it does help things and the 85 ltr bag is going to last forever!

I use rabbit pellets - the cheapest unmedicated ones - as litter for kittens. Cheaper than the kitten safe litters and no VAT.
 
I use sainsbury's or tesco's wood pellet's £3.49 for a bag which last's about 2 weeks at a push with my two....trying to get them to go outside more, but my female cat comes back in to go to the loo.....the cheek!! :)
 
I thought about using horse bedding as cat litter, but I cant stand any wood-based ones as it turns to mush which then means the cats traipse dusty stuff throughout the house. I'm currently using the gritty-kind of cat litter which is much better, dont know if there's a horsey version of that sort?? Currently paying about £15 a bag at the moment and with my cats bloody expensive specialist food (£21 for a small bag) - they're costing me a bomb!!
 
I have laminated flooring throughout my flat which I hate because cat hair flies freely around and I have to hoover all the time so I was a little bit apprehensive about Megazorb because I thought that the cat may trapse it through the flat. So far she hasnt done, although I have her litter tray on a mat to help.

It was very easy to clean out too. I was quite surprised because the poo was sitting on top but I couldnt see any wet patches. I tipped all of the Megazorb into the bin and the wet was all clumped and stuck to the bottom. I thought this was great because it meant that the litter was dry on top and the wet smelly stuff at the bottom. Very easy to clean out!

Lol! I know the feeling, my cat has a sensitive tummy so she is on Hills Science Plan. Crazy that a small bag of food can cost more than that for a horse!
 
My cat has Easibed in his litter tray.

I worked out (being a skint student!) that we were spending about £6 a month on Sam's Tesco value cat litter.

So I brought a bag of Easibed, which cost me £7 and will probably last him at least 3 months. (He is on the skip out daily,empty weekly system.)

So far, he dosent tread the bedding around the house anymore than the old litter and he took to his new lavotory very well, with no complaints from His Lordship to report!!.

Some people use it to bed hamsters,rats etc,and on the base of bird avieries as a cheaper alternative.

So overall, one big thumbs up!
 
We have just tried the Chaplehurst Thirstybed wood pellets £5.85 instead of our usual pets at home bag £7.99, same size bag, but the horse bedding is more dusty, but fortunately they have learnt to wipe there feet on the mat outside there litter box when they come out, so saves it being spread all round the house, I have to hover enough any way there long haired persians.
There Royal Cairne food is normally £50 for 3 months but just found it cheaper on the web at £40! yippee..
