Hi all I'm getting to the end of my resources and patience with people taking the livery and ripping me off for my horse who is too full on for me to ride. I've now tried three trainers in the past year and they have all bs'd me and strung out the livery money without registering him properly to run affliiated and getting him a record to support his sale. I'm coming to the conclusion that one of my options to cut the liabilities and give him a safe future may be to send him to a blood bank. Can someone please PM me details of any they are aware of? I'm less keen on those that pts at 15 as he has no health issues and deserves to live out his span. Thanks for reading.

well, I only know of one bloodbank so not sure if they are all the same. although its not the worse thing that can happen to a horse, it's not a safe option-they are businesses. If he causes trouble, isn't suitable in any way or a hard keeper in their system he will end up at the abattoir.

Why does he need an affiliated record to be put up for sale? If you're happy to give to the blood bank then I assume getting good money for him isn't an issue so if he has ability why don't you loan him to someone who is looking to compete? You can always gift him to them once you know they get on.
Or just sell him as he is - from the field if you don't want to ride him for potential purchasers?
If he's sound blood bank seems an odd choice.

I've nothing against the blood bank, a great option for some horses, it just sounded like this one could have a shot at a competitive home where he would get more one to one time and save the space at the blood bank for another horse who didn't have any other options.

Thanks so much to those who responded without judgement. Sorry for the delay but I had a health crisis on top of the equine one.

To those who were left without words over this I don't owe you an explanation but ask that you read with empathy before judging as this is simply heart breaking for me. This is not a knee jerk but a genuine enquiry as I sort out the options for this chap who was water deprived etc to dope him down and mis sold to me as a happy hacker and he is not that sort at all. This has been a very long road over the past year or so with this chap and I have kept him in livery and paid for training in good faith to try and find him a new home but I have been strung along by some folk who just wanted the livery money and had no interest in helping the chap get out and about see what job he actually likes doing - hence I needed a plan B which may or may not be a blood bank. I didn't just sell him straight away as he has probably suffered for most of his life for the crime of being a saleable commodity. He has talent but can be quirky and needs an experienced and knowledgeable home and I won't just pass him around as a novice ride in the way that someone did to me as that is dangerous and cruel to the horse.

Since my earlier post I have blasted the new trainer into action and it's now clear that a change of disciplines to hunting and show jumping are doing him a power of good and he appears settled and happy in his work. If this continues he has a good chance of a home with someone who has the knowledge and understanding to live with his quirks , that is my only interest in the record side of things to interest a more experienced / competitive home where his quirks are the norm.

Thanks again to the constructive replies.

I have a friend who is a nice kind sympathetic rider, who takes on a project horse to bring on, compete and sell.

She is having her current project vetted (and all being well) sold this week and so will be on the lookout for another. If you can PM me full details of the horse, your location and preferably photos/video I'd be happy to pass them onto her. She won't pay a lot but will do right by the horse. The only thing I would say is she won't take a fruitloop of something with known veterinary history.
