Hi one of my horses has just had a course of Bowen therapy (3 sessions over 4 weeks). Can't say I see or feel any different in her.
Anyone else not noticed an improvement or is it just me?!!!!

How are you measuring different?

Do you know how much the horse was drinking before, and after, or take the pulse before, and after, or a template over the back?

With those indicators the difference is usually clear and dramatic

Ive said it before and ill say it again I do not like or trust Bowen just a personal preference but I dont think it does a lot of anything TBH.
Have you looked into any other techniques?

I was dissapointed with my one session that I had on my WB gelding and in the end I plumped for a McTimoney Chiropractor. He diagnosed rotated pelvis and missaligned atlas and that treatment and a change of saddle and the horse had never looked back. I didn't feel as if the Bowen Therapy had really much difference on my horse, but its like anything, magnetic therapy, supplements, massagers, it is really difficult to guage if any of these treatments have any effect in the long run.

i think bowen is something you can only believe in if you see it working. i personally wouldnt pay for a bowen treatment on my horse, but thats my personal oppinion, what is the problem with your horse??

My horse and me had a course of Bowen some years ago...I can't honestly say it made any difference to either of us.
On the other hand we have used McTimoney with fantastic results to one of our horses.

I found a difference in my horse after a bowen session. he seemd more loose and was moving better.

Also picked up on things I wasnt aware of and that the vets hadnt thought of so was pleased that it worked for Kia.

Hi, the problem with my horse at the time was over compensation of certain muscles due to his bone spavin, but its been sorted now with a combination of McTimoney Chiro, a new saddle and a little longer to warm up/stretching. I thought he had kissing spine at one point and was very desperate for an answer. It was either 'get the physio or get the chiro - but which do I have out first to see him' type of scanario. In the end I plumped for the physio first, but next time i will go for the chiro first!

In defence....

First of all, I'll make it clear that I am a fully qualified and insured Equine Bowen Therapist, so of course I'm going to defend it here.

But I won't bore you with the usual spiel about how wonderful it is etc., etc. Because as a therapist of course I'm going to say things like that.

I know it works (which is why I trained it it) and I've seen fantastic results so many, many times - however even as a practising therapist, I would never claim a 100% success rate and I would never promise anybody a definite cure.

I will freely and honestly admit that I see a significant improvement in about 75% of the horses I treat, the other 25% don't display any obvious changes. However, what I have NEVER seen is a horse (or person - I treat humans too, as well as the occasional dog) get worse.

Bowen does work, but not for all. The same can be said for McTimoney, Physio, Equine Touch, Osteo etc. etc. etc. They are all done with the best of intentions and for the good of the horse, but until you give them a try, you will never know which one will work best on your particular horse. They all work in their own different ways, and all provide positive results - but not every therapy will work for every horse and if a therapist from any discipline when questioned stated that they could honestly see a significant improvement 100% of the time, then I'm afraid that I'd be very hesitant to believe them.

Unfortunately, in this day and age, it's always the negatives that people love to gossip about. As they say "Bad news travels". It's such a shame (for therapists in all fields - not just Bowen) that good news travels nowhere near as fast.

So to finish, I say don't let negative comments put you off trying Bowen (or any other therapy). Yes, there is a small chance that it may not be "the treatment" for you/your horse in particular - but it does work for the vast majority of people who give it a try.
