I'm starting my own livery yard up in the next few months. It will based on one of 2 family farms. I've owned horses for 10 years, worked on a riding school/livery yard for 4 years and i am just finishing off my Equine and Business Management degree.
When I finish my equine degree, Id like to run my own natural yard.. not specifically for any particular school of teaching. But with things like a round pen, 24/7 turnout and barefoot trimmer visits etc.
Will be interested to read the replies and see how other people set up on their own. Its a scary prospect!
I run a website which is non-equine related but am in the process of designing another site which is equine based. Are you thinking of starting your own business?
I run/own a point to point and breaking yard.
I built the yard on my dads property, taking out a business loan to do so.
Worked in racing all my life, including spells as head girl and assistant trainer for large yards.
Yes, I would like to set up on my own, but I'm not totally sure in what sphere. Ideally I'd like to work from home. I don't have any land, and I'm not sure I'd want to go down the livery side of things. I would like to run a tack shop, but fear the overheads of a premesis would be scary.
Those of you who do work from home and/or internet based, what do you do? Where do you buy your stock from?
