Can anyone recomend and good equine dentist in Essex.

I want someone who is calm, gentle, patient horswispery type.
Horse is only 5 should be fine but is really needle phobic so don't want anyone who suggests sedating at the first sign of a problem.

I use Garry Draper - had done all mine for years and has been great with Fleur and Delia who both could be awkward, and needed very careful handling, but with him they would be good as he was so patient. He even smiled when Delia got her revenge by opening her mouth and letting the rinse go down his neck.

He was great with Chancer who has been done since 18 months - started with a rasp covered in honey and very gently introduced to the whole teeth procedure.

I know a few people don't like him, but for me, he is very good and patient and does a good job.

I have heard lots of things (mostly bad) about GD including about his lack of qualifications.

I personally use Steven Gerrard who is a qualified EDT and works with my vets.

However, another (unqualified) dentist I have actually heard good things about is Damien Greenshields. He is in Essex and have heard he is really good with youngsters and nervous horses.

Other than that, you could try a vet but most of them havent done the specialist training so are a bit basic with teeth. I once had a vet who had also completed the dentisty qualification (the only who is dual qualified in the UK) and she was rubbish to be honest.

Thanks for the advice, I just googled them and can't find anything bad about Damien Greenshields and most importantly several people commented on his way with the horses saying he is the only one who has managed to get it done without sedation, just what I need.

Has anyone got his number as his website doesn't seem to be working properly.

Cant reccomend Damien enough, really good around all the horses

Stuart Garrad, he is very patient with the horses, very thorough and very good at what he does. He was one of the first 12 qualified EDT's in the UK. Damien did not qualify in the UK and I have seen some of his work!!!!

If you go to Paton & Lee Vets website his contact details are on there and he holds surgerys there a couple of thursdays a month.

I can assure you once you have had Stuart you will sing his praises.
