Had a text from a vets to say there is a outbreak of equine flu in Cheshire and to be sure horse vaccinated. Anyone else had a text or know of this outbreak ?

Someone else has just started a thread on this. I also got the text. I have to say given that I am no longer registered with the practice after moving to Derbyshire I think it's a really effective way of letting people know. Mine is vaccinated already but have passed round horsey friends to make them aware also.

Equine Influenza (EI)
On the 19th September 2013 the Animal Health Trust confirmed an outbreak of equine influenza (EI) virus on a riding school premises in Cheshire, England. The diagnosis was confirmed by qPCR on a nasal swab taken from a four-year-old unvaccinated pony that presented with a mild cough. There are 49 horses on the premises, of which 19 are reported as vaccinated against EI and with eight animals currently showing signs of mild coughing. Control measures, including movement restrictions have been implemented on the affected premises.

I received a text this afternoon from our vets advising of the outbreak and to check vaccinations up to date.

My two were already booked for next week. I wonder if someone will be able to tell us which part of Cheshire the outbreak is in.

I know the yard on which it's on, who are all on strict quarantine for a while so fingers crossed it doesn't spray and all get better soon :(!
