Equine herbals -Mellow

Hi, has anyone tried this, Mellow by Equine Herbs?

Any feedback? did it work and under what circumstances did you need it?

I have had to move my horse to a new yard, much smaller that the last one, and he is not coping well. I have tried Naf Magic without much luck and a friend said the Mellow really chilled her tb out.

Never heard of it till she talked about it tho and just trying to get more feedback..

I found it absolutely incredible! My mum bought it and put it in my horse's feed without telling me, and two dys later I came back from a schooling session beaming because of the difference in him! (she told me then)

I have just started using it - it is good - I have an anxious horse and it contains St. John's wort. He is much better.

Hi! I've had experience of using Mellow to great effect and also it's worth contacting the herbalists - via www.equineherbals.com as they are able to give lots of advice. James Hart Solutions Equine Herbals range is the leading herbal supplement in New Zealand - and quite a few professional riders use the products as their 'secret weapon'! Mellow is unique - and called cooperate in New Zealand, and can really chill horses out especially grumpy ones eg if on box rest. But James Hart Solutions also has a valerian based calmer, VCalm (not suitable for competition) and a calmer for competition, EquiCalm. There's also Listen and Learn designed to help horses concentrate/prone to distraction/young ones who get 'brain drain', and Harmony, for mares/hormonal horses - so depending on your horse one/other/or a combination may be best. I've used all for different circumstances, V Calm to clip horses that otherwise needed sedating (upped dose from bottle dose but it worked!), EquiCalm for a very tense horse, first routinely, now just on competition days, Listen and Learn for both spooky and young horses and Harmony for a mare who cycling had got out of sync! (James advises using Harmony for 3mths minimum). I used Mellow for a mare that was resistant to dressage! Was being the operative word! Mellow should be used twice daily in feed and only stopped gradually - ie by lowering the dose to 0, rather than suddenly as apparently some horses get withdrawal symptoms and revert after use whereas most horses use Mellow to 'get over' an issue and are then better without any aid. Anyway, I thoroughly advise asking the herbalists themselves as are really willing to help and not very biased eg advise other products/solutions too - even using in combination where it fits, especially with Mellow which shouldn't be used with some drugs - just like in human medicine. It's good to know the products are the highest concentration you can buy in the UK which not only means they are more likely to work at low doses, they also work out much much cheaper than many others on the market.
