Equine herpes in eye?

Can anyone explain to me about equine herpes and how would a horse get it in their eye? Thankyou

Hi our pony has had this problem and was mistakenly diagnosed with uveitis before the vet tried anti viral drops which worked although she has been left with a chronic problem which means I can't take her off the pred forte eye drops or it flares up again. The vet got an eye specialist in and he confirmed it was viral. He said it would live somewhere eg the optic nerve but there was no real explanation as to why it occurred and it's not contagious apparently.

Flies. Take great care because it was one of the suspects that eventually led to my horse having to have his eye removed.
