Evening all, just had this passed on via a friend from North devon. Lets hope this stays contained but be aware!!!

NORTH DEVON - OUTBREAK OF EQUINE HERPES VIRUS STARTS TO HIT HORSE EVENTS FOR MORE INFORMATION VISIT www.horseeventsuk.com

With a recent outbreak of this serious, notifiable disease being confirmed in North Devon it will be wise for those within the region wishing to attend events to double check with the organisers that they are going ahead.

Equine Herpes Virus (EHV-1) infection in horses can cause respiratory disease, abortion in mares, neonatal foal death, and/or neurologic disease. The neurologic form of EHV-1 is called Equine Herpes Virus Myeloencephalopathy (EHM). The virus can spread through the air, contaminated equipment, clothing and hands.

North Devon vets are recommending precautions be place to ensure the outbreak in contained which includes the quarantining of animals that might have been with infected animals for 7 - 10 days. Some hunts and riding clubs have cancelled meets so just check before you travel.

As we hear of any changes we will update the website at www.horseeventsuk.com in the meantime here are some links to offer more information on the disease.

I heard a rumour about this yesterday. They also said it was believed to be on a trainers yard - believed being the optimum word, please do not take this as gospel.
Lets hope it is dealt with quickly, effectively and contained with minimul stress and that people listen to the warnings and adhere to them.

Very sadly I've heard poor Victor Dartnall has lost four horses. This may not be true but I know that it has been confirmed at his yard. As of this morning I heard there were to other unconfirmed cases very close to me, in the nearest village which is 2 miles away - less as the crow flies. Just praying that this can be contained, that mine and others horses will be safe and no more lives lost - very worrying right now :(

Very, very sad. My thought are with the lads, lasses, owners and trainer off these horses. It must unbearably worrying for other owners locally too - thinking off you all too.
Worrying thing is that there have just been the massive sales at Newmarket and another one this week - lets hope it hasn't been spread any further accross the country.
