the vet is thinking about trying one on my horse for his summer pollen allergy, has anyone got any experience with them & which one did you try?
she says it is best to scope the horse first but that would be a big no no he isnt the best with vets and we are 99.9% sure it is an asthma type thing brought on by some sort of pollen as it seems to be bad for a few weeks late spring early summer and again late summer early autum so we are both thinking to save the stress issue of being scoped etc to try one and see if it works

hi, I had three on inhalers they were all scoped first and fluids taken from the lung/throat(every horse on the yard was scoped) and swabbed for allergens (that is pretty easy think giant cotton bud up the snoz) then they had inhalers according to each horse. I can't remember which inhalers they had I will try and find my notes. Inhalers worked amazing for one horse, one slight improvement and the other none.

My horse is currently having Beclometasone via a paediatric spacer unit, for allergies.

I'm hoping I'll be able to phase it in and out with the seasons. It has been very effective for her but is expensive unfortunately.

I have a mare that is on 3 inhalers, with varying doses administered through a pediatric spacer.

She needs them all summer from the start of warmer weather right through to when the weather turns cold and wet for winter. Last summer before the inhaler therapy started she could not walk from one side of a 5 acre field to the other without stopping to rest, was constantly wheezing and coughing, and was really distressed.

Inhaler therapy can be expensive, but can be very worth it aswell. The above mare completed a 10 mile fun ride a bit earlier this year and was so exicted to be getting out and about that she wouldnt walk and jogg trotted the whole way round and was still full of energy at the finish. Worth every penny!

thanks, we had a swab done to double check he didnt have any nasty bugs and it came back clear, but i will talk to the vet and ask if another swab can be done and tested for allergens, swab we could do but scoping would be so stressfull on everyone:rolleyes:

it is good to hear that the inhalers seem to work - thanks

I had a bloods panel done for allergens. It was about £ 300 but made amazing reading!

The scope really isn't stressfull. It's done under sedation anyway.

My mare has been endoscoped twice and gastroscoped three times. She never knew a thing about it!
