Hi all I'm after recommendations for insurance companies that people have had good experience with.

I will be looking to take out insurance for Vet fees and public Liability.

I need to choose one so I can check what if any vetting they would require prior to purchase.

As above & also include KBIS & NFU (although NFU prices have risen alot over recent years) All these will give you excellent cover but steer well clear from E&L and various companies who are their subsiduaries as there has been more bad experiences shared on this & other forums regarding their service than possibly any other company of any kind.

Have a look at this link to The Review Centre' regarding E&L. There are a couple of good reviews but these are far outnumbered by the bad:

NFU Mutual. I used to work in Equine Insurance and with Equine vets and they are great (in my experience). Had bad experience with Petplan changing the rules when they felt like it but other peeps are happy.

Again NFU has a great policy that caters to numerous factors re: vet fees etc. They tend to get on with things and provided no dodgy history they aim to pay out in 2 days to policyholder or 5 to vet practice.

Amtrust. Paid out without a problem when I needed to claim. They gave one of the cheapest quotes as well. Only bettered (I think) by the one which shall not be named!

Shearwater were great when we had to claim for extensive vets fees for our loan horse after an accident on a horse walker. Final bill came to nearly £7k and they quickly paid the full £5k sum insured. They were great to deal with from first enquiry to the settlement. Not sure how much the premium will rise this time though but the cost was very reasonable for a 17 year old with vets fees up to £15k per year (£5k per incident).

Another vote for Petplan, not cheap but they do pay. I had 3k of vet bills last year, payed the lot with no quibbles and continued to pay for remedial shoeing for the rest of year and the policy hardly went up at all when my renewal came through.

I've always found NFU fantastic. I thought they were getting expensive but just got a quote from Petplan that was £300 more!!! They were asking for nearly a quarter of his purchase price as a premium! I will go with NFU I think ;)
