I am very interested in equine journalism, but I cannot find much information on it. I am only a sophomore in high school, but I am interested in anything to help me get started.

I can't help you out here however i'm interested to see the replies.
I can offer something I thought of doing but it may lead to nothing;

Set up a Youtube account,
Go to events and interview riders you're interested in.
Put it on youtube,
get more famous and then maybe work on TV? :)

I am one - although I focus on the more technical side of things. I write for a specialist magazine which is aimed at vets, nutritionists, physios, farriers, trainers etc - anyone involved in the care and management of horses as their profession. I love it, but I would always counsel anyone who says that's what they want to do, that it is important to have a back up plan/additional income stream. It's EXCEPTIONALLY hard to get a journalism job - there are hundreds, if not thousands of people who all want to do the same, and you have to be exceptional to have any hope of getting a lowly paid gig with a consumer publication. You will probably have to learn your trade on "Migwelder Monthly" or similar, if you can even get in there, and you will have to be prepared to get paid virtually nothing for a long time.

Writing has to be a passion, not just something you are quite good at. It's a craft you need to hone, so write as much as you can, and read as much as you can. Start a blog, and use that to practice writing for an audience, and as a showcase for your ability. And consider an associated sector, where you can practice more. PR and Marketing is a good starting point for a budding journalist, as you will be writing on a daily basis, and your work needs to quickly become good enough to publish.

My journalistic work is what I live for, but I earn the main part of my income from freelance PR, Marketing, Website copy and other copywriting.

It's tough - make no mistake about that. I don't want to put you off, but you need to be aware that you have to be really really determined, really really talented, and really really lucky to get your foot in the door.
