Equine lice

Hi There, I rescued a little mare that was infested and when we got rid of the live lice there where millions of eggs left. I don't believe there is anything that can kill the eggs, unfortunately you have to wait until they hatch and treat them as a new infestaion until the cycle has been stopped. We've been brushing and washing to loosen as many eggs as possible while we wait on them to hatch. It's a long process...........

Thank you. It's gross!!! They are mainly around the head area and you wouldn't notice them unless you part the hair and there are LOADS. Do you know how long it takes for them to hatch? My big horse hasn't got any but she was fully clipped all winter, it's just a youngster I have brought in from the paddock?

they will tell you 14 days but we're waiting that long already and there is no sign of them hatching!! I know they are awful things but no easy way to deal with them unfortunately!!

if you get some spot on it is lice lotion for cattle, you apply once and re-apply in 6 weeks. it is the best stuff to treat them with.
It kills the original lice and last for 6 weeks so any that hatch die before they get a chance to lay any eggs, and when you re-apply it just get the last few littl blighters.
I also use it in the summer as a fly repellant. as you still only have to apply it every 6 weeks and keeps them nasty little flying things away
