Do you use a physio/back person for your horse on a regular basis i.e. like having your horses teeth rasped? If so how often do you have your horse treated?
Or would you only use them if your horse had a problem?
Thanks

I definately do a regular basis...every 6 months or if there's a problem.

My horse was bucking horribly last September/October, so got it checked out (she wasn't due a physio till this Jan). It turned out the saddle wasn't helping (although physio said it wasn't the worst she had see) however it did transpire she was tight in her pelvis region - probably due to pregnancy (foal due this April).

She gave some great exercises almost equine pilates to do in the school. And whilst I stopped riding last year

she has been much happier in her normal grumpy way.

I think it should be part of a routine check personally, after all we get the dentist so he cant eat well, we get farrier so he work under the ground condtions we work them on, we get saddles fitters out to make sure our saddle fits them, so why not get a chiropractor out or have some physio to make sure his body is up to job as well.

Yes Physio is part of my routine maintenance use it at least every 4-6 months.
Im using it about once a month atm, just swapping to a new Physio my new Vet wants me to use as one of my horses requires more physio than usual to keep ticking over happily.

mine have regular sports massage, frequency depends on the individual horse. One of mine was best seen every four weeks, any longer and problems started to creep in, another is best at 5/6 weeks and others go longer. Will use a chiropracter if sports massage lady thinks appropriate. All that said if I think a horse is feeling a bit sore they will get a massage treatment asap and not wait for their next "regular" appointment.

Mctimoney at least once a year. Mine doesn't have anything in particular, but he does like the massage pads that the guy has - the big tart! (horse that is!!!)

I like to give him my own version of a massage quite a lot, nothing harsh obviously, but I think he just enjoys the extra attention, he also likes a good groom with me when I change his rugs

I had my ex racehorse done every month from May till Sept to get his main issues sorted out. Back lady now comes as and when but usually every 2 months to keep him ticking over. It is definately part of my routine maintenance for him. Other horses haven't needed anywhere near as much care as this one!!

i do when i think there might be a problem or when a horse has a period of time off before starting work again i will have it done then aswell but if there is no problem why fix it!

Our jumping pony whios is 19 and a sensitive soul has the physio at least quarterly as I think she does feel her back.
Our allrounder pony never sees the physio - he is as tough as old boots!

Mine get regular Bowen sessions as and when I feel they need it (and especially a couple of days after an endurance ride) and I know that this helps a lot. Mine have also got an advantage though in that I'm a fully qualified Equine Bowen Therapist and therefore they can have as much treatment as they need (if needed) and it doesn't cost me a penny!

Yes, I used to get a recommended back man if there was a problem which he appeared to sort but after using a physio I couldn't believe the difference she made so I now ensure that my horse gets checked routinely ever four to six months depending on how much work we are doing.

I got a physio out when I bought Bob, and have completely gone with her recommendations about how often she has come out to him - every 3 months at the moment, but I was very happy for it to be more often than that if he needed it. She is coming to another horse on the yard every 2 weeks

She did say her next visit in April will hopefully be her last one, so I will ask her about 'maintenance' visits then

I have the equine dentist every 6 months, although I was told last time that Bob didnt need treating as his teeth were fine
