Equine pregnancy tests... do they work?

Someone's asked me about using these. I suggest vet but it's been a long time since I needed to use one of these. Have they improved? Do they work? And if so, how reliable?

I used the wee foal 38 last year on about day 45 it said a clear negative but she was in foal. The 120 was more accurate I've used them twice.

My vet carried out a pregnancy test on my mare which was the post 120 days test and it came back negative.

Mare gave birth to a foal 4 weeks later!!!

So in my experience it wasn't accurate apparently test was for 120 - 300 days after that the hormones start falling again according to the lab.
