Hi
doing a RC quiz next week. I have done it for quite a few years now & as members tend to bring non horsey partners I alternate each question per round - one equine, one pub quiz type question & so on.

Anyone have any equine questions please? Running a bit low - have exhausted the pony club quiz book over the years - i use old copies of H&H but bit short on time to keep flicking thro!

I have loads from previous years - can e mail them over & share them out o anyone doing similar!

thanks in advance

A round of equine questions based on famous partnerships goes down well, either or both from fiction and history . eg Lone Ranger and Silver , Richard III and White Surrey , Dick Turpin and Black Bess, Wellington & Copenhagen . You can always do similar with sports pairs eg C de J and Valegro etc.

How about some equine sports questions. i.e. who won grand national last year, which jockey rode most winners in 2014, who won Badminton etc

I went to a quiz once where the answers and questions were equine related but you didn't need horsey knowledge to answer them. For example one round was logos that had horses - Ferrari and Lloyd's were two of the answers.

I find these quite good too as even non horsey people have a chance with them with a bit of general knowledge. I've used these in the past:

Irishman Cian O'connor won Show Jumping gold at the Olympics in Athens in 2004 but was later stripped of his medal. Why?
A: His horse failed a drugs test.

What was unique about the Melbourne Olympics? Clue: It involved the equestrian events.
A: It is the only Olympic Games in history to have had events in two different countries. The equestrian events were held in Stockolm due to Australian quarantine laws.

What made Princess Anne unique amongst the female competitors at the Montreal Olympics in 1976?
A: She was the only woman not to have to undergo gender testing.

Which horse had a fence named after him at Aintree after winning the Grand National by being the only horse to jump this particular fence?
A: Foinavon

Who won the "National that never was" in 1993? (or in which year did the "National that never was" take place?)
A: Esha Ness (ridden by John White, trained by Jenny Pitman)

What was significant about Nick Skelton's gold medal at the London Olympics?
A: he became the oldest Briton ever to win a gold medal.

Vicarage Vee, Huntsmans Close and The Lake all feature in which British sporting event?
A: Badminton

Show jumping is one of the events of the modern Pentathlon, name the other 4. (or 2/3 of the 4 if you want to make it easier)
A: Swimming, running, fencing and shooting.

Very easy to do and you don't require equestrian knowledge is to set anagrams, they can be as easy or difficult as you want, include a mix of things, parts of horse, parts of tack, names of horse and rider, major events, the list is endless.

Link questions such as a having colour in the answer, which 3 horses with a link in the names won the Grand National in 1968/ 1973/ 2001
Red Alligator/ Red Rum/ Red Marauder, a point for each correct answer.

I never knew that, thought they were totally different bones! Every day's a school day :)

Very local or riding club based questions are also quite good - things like

How much is a bag of cool mix from (local feed shop).
Who won (whatever award) at the Riding Club prize giving this year.
How much do we chargeto enter a dressage competition.

thanks all. I have loads of equine questions which I've used before if anyone wants any. the unusual ones are better I find. eg the one about the 3 horses with Red in their name & also a few little trick type ones - could do with some more of these
eg - how many animals did Moses take onto the ark? Answer is none it was Noah not Moses who was on the Ark. they are good as people are always quick to jump with an answer but if you did listen properly you'd know it was sort of a trick question!
