Equine reiki experiences (Positive!!)

Hi, has anyone had any lovely experiences with reiki for their horse?
Please don't put reiki down on here, I want to hear stories of how it's helped. I know everyone has their opinions but I'm not here to listen to negative opinions of it as it's something I think is brilliant. I just want to hear people's opinions of how it has helped their horse and their understanding.
Plus, has anyone used Donna Smith from Essex?
 
I had my first equine reiki experience at a camp - I was chatting to a lady who did equine reiki, and as my mother then did human reiki we were chatting and she offered to show me the difference.

Well. My stressy, alert horse went out like a light. All his veins came up, his lip dropped and he pretty much fell asleep - until she tried to stop, at which point he reversed into her, lifting his shivery leg as if to say 'here!!!'.

Was the weirdest thing id ever seen. I'd always assumed reiki was some kind of placebo effect, but there's no way he could have known what was going on, and he was so obviously affected.

This inspired my mum, who went on to train in equine reiki too. She is totally non horsy, but has developed a fab relationship with my standoffish horse, who loves her to bits despite her being a total noob, and he will just stand and snooze all the way through his reiki sessions - until he's had enough, at which point he pushes her away very abruptly!

Reiki really relaxes him, and we give him regular (weekly or so) reiki to help with his stress levels and his shivering. He is much more chilled out when he has had his reiki, and I notice a difference in his hind end when trying to put studs in.
 
I like and believe in Reiki so much that after experiencing some very positive results I decided to do a Reiki course myself. My training started on people, then I did distant Reiki which I must say I did wonder how that would work. However, I was amazed at the positive experiences so then did a equine course. My girl now enjoys her Reiki sessions on a regular basis and I can't believe how much calmer she is.

For the sceptical people all I would say is don't knock it until you've tried it and bear in mind, like all things there are good and not so good
Reiki practitioners.
 
So you want opinions but only ones that you agree with? Why? How does that help anyone?

My old pony had a reiki session which really helped her, so I am very open to it as a result, as I am with most things, but I would never ask people to censure their opinions on a public forum just because I don't care to hear them.
 
I meant it being that I don't want a whole thread of people saying what a load of crap it is. I want experiences of how it has helped their horse, I'm not asking for opinions...just experiences.

Which is largely the same thing. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for reiki and many other treatments, I just don't believe in asking for specific responses - it doesn't help anyone come to an informed decision about whether they want to try it or not.
 
My sister is a Reiki practitioner and I was rather sceptical about it - especially when she started on about how you could do it down he phone ...

Well she came up and did some Reiki on my uptight mare who immediately relaxed. I watched carefully and she didn't actually touch her but B definitely reacted to it.
 
Not with horses but with dogs, I had a gsd bitch, total stresshead who would eat the furniture when left even for short periods, despite living with a chilled out male gsd. I was on the point of having her pts when I tried Reiki as a last resort, first session I couldn't believe it when the dog was asleep at the healers feet, never been known to relax with strangers, she died of old age years later having had three Reiki sessions. On the other side of the coin, another male gsd wasn't receptive and went to attack the healer (death row dog) so Reiki is not for everyone
 
I met a friend of a friend who was a Reiki Master (RM) at around the time my mums mare was constantly lame behind and the vets couldn't diagnose why. He went in her stable to have a look and at the time I was in my boys stable next door (the open Loddon style boxes with bars) - well, my normally laid-back gelding went bonkers at him being in with her.

The mare let out a huge sigh, relaxed and let him work his magic on her. His opinion - equine equivalent of sciatica. 2 or 3 sessions later she was a different horse.

Some time after this my gelding severely tore his right hind suspensory ligament. Had the vets out to scan and, yep, there it was, not attached where it should've been. Queue booking him a trip to the Cambridge Vets School a week later. During this time I was lucky enough to have my RM friend come out and also do some distance healing.

Turned up at the vets a week later, they did another scan and guess what, the ligament was once again attached where it should've been. Can still remember them looking at the pics from my vets (very reputable practice) and comparing to theirs and shaking their heads.

Both our horses loved being visited by the RM - my gelding would always place himself relevant to what parts he wanted work on.

Animals can't be conditioned to something by being told what is going to happen, unlike us humans. They can only go on what they sense/feel. As long as you use someone who comes recommended by others then give it a try - just bear in mind not all horses/pets are open to or want to have their energies fiddled with.

This is a very good point. My mum offered to help with a friend's gelding, who was getting very nappy and attached, and he went ballistic at her. She couldn't even go in his stable. He was pushing right back against her energy the whole time. She said that it's the same with people - if you don't want to be helped, you won't be.

Some others just take time. If they haven't had reiki before, sometimes a closed off type horse can take a while to open to it, and keeps it very much on their terms on short bursts. But often this improves as they get used to it.
