Has anyone used Equine Sciences product for Gastric Ulcers? Its cheaper than Gastrogard, so wondered how good it is.

By sister uses Equine Americas U-Gard on her boy, on the vets recomendation, it's brill stuff, cant recomend it enough

do the cheaper products contain omeprazole? My boy was on gastroguard which has completely cleared up his ulcers (and resonably quickly).

My mare too. That is the only active ingredient that will heal the ulcers.
Everything else just helps with the symptoms.

U-Gard doesn't but field trials have shown a good success rate (I found some results on the internet once but can't seem to find them now). I use it as a backup to GastroGuard, on it's own it seemed to help him a lot but he still needed GG to clear them up properly. I'm hoping the UGard will stop them recurring though & my vet & the hospital both recommended that he stay on it.

My mare has been recommended to stay on Pro Soothe for the same reason Nari.
Having said that she is off to be scoped again on Monday. She has had a nasty infection the last two months and I think she mat have an ulcer again

The only stuff which has been clinically trialled as an antacid is neighlox. That said, settlex (by feedmark) has all the same ingredients bar one in it, so given the cost difference I decided to try Settlex. Horse was scoped and ulcers had started to recur (I caught it v v early as I now know the signs in my horse, so grade 1) - he then went on ggard and then settlex. Had to be rescoped for a biopsy and the vet was v impressed - textbook stomach for the first time in over a year, the settlex has done the trick.
I now feed settlex in AM and PM feed, and give prosoothe/acid ease (same product, different packaging, buy whichever is cheapest!) 30mins before exercise with a handful of mollichaff high fibre alfalfa to help prevent splash ulcers.
