A few weeks ago I read a post on here where folk were raving about the EquineScience Cookie Calmers. My mare can be tense and spooky and I've tried a number of other calmers and not noticed anything other than a tiny difference. So I phoned EquineScience and based on everything I told her Deborah recommended I first try the Cookie Calmers and if I noticed a difference then put her on a course of GastroPlus as she may have gastric ulcers.

She is just coming to the end of her course of GastroPlus and I am truly blown away with the difference. Firstly, she looks different. I have before and after photos (happy to PM them to anyone)and the difference in shape is definitely noticeable. Secondly is the difference under saddle. Much of her behaviour I used to put down to being a mare! Sometimes felt like riding with the handbrake on, just kind of holding herself. Ask her to become more engaged and Miss Attitude would emerge! She is now so soft, calm and focussed but without being dopey. I am not saying that overnight she can suddenly perform perfectly but every time she is trying and that's all I ask of her.

Before I started with this product I would not have said she had gastric ulcers. However, seeing and feeling the difference in her I have no doubt that she did and now feels far more comfortable. Can't rate this product highly enough (and no I am not sponsored or anything by them!).

I had a discussion with the Vet once about this. She said that people with mares will sometimes put behaviour down to 'marishness' rather than think that the horse might be in pain. She basically said that IHE, geldings get the Vet called sooner than mares. I find that very sad.

ETA - i'm really glad that your horse is doing so well.

My boy was diagnosed with Grade 2 & 3 Ulcers, after treatment with GG and on his Ulcer treatment after that, all seemed to be going well until beginning of this year when he started showing signs again after changing one of his Supplements. As GG now excluded on Insurance the Gastroplus also seemed to be cropping up so rang Deborah and he started it.Different horse, now on the Stomach Maintenance with Calmer.Took him back out last weekend to first Affiliated Dressage where he had actually had me off last December-the last time we went out.Tried the Calming Cookies and he was super and got a 70% and 69% and 11 points.Spoke to Deborah in the week and she recommended trying the Gastroplus when competing with the calming Cookies as and when needed-took him to a new venue today and he was perfect, relaxed and calm but with ideal energy-he got 2 2nds with a 72% & 70%-so wanting to get 14 Points before the end of the month for Regional Qual-in 6 days has 24 Points and I have a lovely, calm, happy horse!

Great to hear you have had good results. My boy is soon to finish an 8 week course of gg which I think has defo helped. He is being rescoped next week. Thinking ahead to when the insurance runs out I am looking for a product that will keep him comfy but is cost effective too! Approx how much does the gastro plus cost?

The Gastroplus is about £230 from what I can remember but after 1 course of that he went onto the Stomach Maintenance which is about £88 for 80 or so doses as has 1 dose a day.He doesn't have any other supplements apart from his Vit and min so actually works out cheaper gang his Calmer,Pre/Pro Biotic and Ulcer supplement per month.

I too used gastroplus and yes my horse is back rid able!! competing at shows and never looked back. this horse was seriously sick and was very close to having her PTS after colicking every night with the ulcers, all i can say is that i can never thank the lady enough for recommended me gastroplus she saved my horses life and gave back to me my wonderful horse after all the tears and heartache which we went threw!! xxx
