Has anyone got /use an Equissage machine ? I looked at one the other day but was then told it was about £2000 ! Does anyone think they re worth that much? I only have one horse.
i won a demo on my horse and he is cold backed and it made a massive difference but i cant say it would be worth it for one horse unless i was competing prix sy george dressage lol. there is another one that is about £220. prob not as good but does the same job. cant remember what its called though. il have a look.
I have the equilibrium massage pad, and can recommend it although I have just had to send mine back as 2 straps broke after 1 month however they have said they will replace it.
I have worked with Eqissage for my final project at university and ran an experiment on whether heart rate was reduced at a show when using the equissage back pad and heart rate was lowered as below. They are AMAZING i have seen so many differences in my horse to list. they are about 2000 inclding the hand unit which i would reccomend. The equillibirum pads work in a very different way in a more banging action rather than a circular 'cycloidal massage' way that equissage does. They are ok but nothing in comparrison to the equissage pads.
Journey: Reduction in heart rate as a result of using Equissage
At the yard before show 36.1 %
In trailer, way to the show 45.8 %
At show 55.1 %
In trailer, way home from the show 51.9 %
At the yard after show 22.3 %
wow interesting stats Rosie. anyone who went to badders will know that equissage were giving away a free session to everyone- have booked mine in for 2 weeks tomorrow with my local rep (who sounds lovely). will be interested to see effect on Vandi who can be extremely tense after mounting if i haven't lunged first...don't know if can afford 2k though!!! perhaps could affors the £200 one! i presume that it would still be useful even if not as good?!
diggerbez, if you look at their website they will give a free demo to anybody who even shows a sniff of interest - and in the majority of cases the horse will significantly loosen up and move more freely.
The question for me though is whether the investment is viable for most single horse owners.
As for measuring pulse rates - you can get exactly the same results with Bowen therapy, with the additional benefit of increased fluid consumption too

yeah i did think it might be something like that
but i like to feel like i got something for free
it wasn't really a matter of whether he'd be looser in movement but more whether he'd be less tense and inclined to rodeo buck me off as soon as my ass hit the saddle so its a self preservation technique!
i'm not sure if i'm convinced by bowen therapy....admittedly i don't know loads about it- just what people off my old yard said. probably because they used to talk bull all of the time i just assumed it was more bull and stopped listening. what i don't like is this idea that you can't touch them for a few days?!!
One girl got told to have regular BT and only long rein for 6 months- she was amazed when her horse was going better after 6 months. surely most horses would benefit from this
