HELP!!!!!.

I need help and guidance.... I have allowed myself to be talked into entering a local agricultural show by my friend (well it will be a different day out I suppose!) and the classes she wants me to do are the unaffiliated novice jumping and either a riding club horse class or an equitation class.

The thing is that I really don't do showing as my current horse is blemished and pidgeon toed.... (and I find it tedious!!)

I have a vague idea what is involved in a riding club horse, but what is this equitation thingi all about?

Can anyone help me on this one?

With equitation, the rider, rather than the horse is evaluated Judging criteria covers the rider's performance and control of the horse, use of riding aids, proper attire, correct form, and usually factor in rider poise and the cleanliness and polish of horse, rider and equipment. The performance of the horse is not judged per se, but a poorly-performing horse is considered to reflect the ability of the rider. A good equitation rider is always in balance with the horse, maintains a correct position in every gait, movement, or over a fence, and possesses a commanding, but relaxed, presence, able to direct the horse with nearly invisible aids.
The riding club horse is a class for any type of horse physically. It needs to be a good all rounder, capable of all types of Riding Club activities - typically dressage, showjumping and XC. There is normally a small jump in the class to be done as part of the individual show. Willingness and obedience should be more important in this class than conformation or type.
Good luck with your show :)

can I be akward and suggest that if you find it tedious you don't do it?!! Can you not do something else instead, or just do the jumping? Perhaps they have dressage tests or something instead? If you fancy some showing, but would like something a bit more interesting, how about working hunter?

OK..... glos girl you do have a point...... so bearing in mind that I have allowed myself to be talked into it, how do I now get out of it without seriously upsetting very excited friend.

As you've said yes now, probably best to go along with it and just enjoy the day as much as you can.

Choose equitation if you are confident in your riding abilities and position (which from your signature doesn't look terrible). Choose riding club if you'd rather not have a judge scrutinising your every move!

Thank you ..... have just replied to her excited email with Jumping and riding club option, as while the position isn't too bad, if my girl gets to be a tense nervous headache, position and decorum tend to go right out the window:rolleyes:
