Hi, I wondered if anyone can tell me how they find the Equitrek 3.5-4.5 tonne boxes. I currently own an Equitrek Show Treka M, I love it but the quality is, well, as you know, not great! It is a 2012 and have had to have the ramp re-done, the tack box is rotting at the bottom, screws always coming loose etc. But I like towing it, the ponies travel well in it and love the living part. I am now thinking of getting a small box, I just wanted to find out if the Equitrek Horseboxes are as poor quality as the trailers. Any info would be gratefully received. We have two ponies both 13.3hh so I don't think we would have the payload we'd need with the 3.5t so would probably have to be a 4-4.5t.
TIA

I had one of the first equi trek vans and they were great, never had a problem. If I was buying now I wouldn’t touch one.

A friend brought one new last year, build quality isn't great and its just come out of the garage because it needed a new starter motor. I wouldn't touch them. I also don't like the idea of having the ramp on the drivers side.

Equi wrecks as a dealer once told me. I’ve borrowed one before and the back wall with just my weight behind it pushed away from the floor so you could see daylight!! Safe to say I didn’t put a horse in it and told the owners obviously. This was a sonic. I have used the 3.9t about 2008 version and that appeared well made.

I looked at a 3.9t version in their factory, was intending to buy, only the quality of the finish and fittings was rubbish. I tried to ask about upgrading some things to make it safer, and was dismissed rather rudely. It was not safe enough for me to put my horse in, I simply didn't feel confident in the build.

I went for a bigger box for a while, but now have a Bloomfiels 3.9 which is sturdy with a good finish. They also hold their value better.

Quality is still rubbish. As PN said I'd look at some of the others builders like Boss and Blomfields. If you're on FB it's worth joining a group called dodgy horsebox builders so that you can check out the builders.

It might be worth working out the weight of what you need to carry, I think you might be surprised how quickly a tonne of payload (that's if you're lucky enough to get 1t) gets used up with fuel and gear. Could you (post lockdown) go to the local weighbridge once with car and trailer empty and once with ponies and gear onboard?

Highly recommend Billy at WW Trading. Based in Norfolk by delivers country wide. Just had a custom built 3.5T by him, a lot less than the big names for equal quality. I was involved at every stage of the build, can’t recommend him highly enough.
