I asked this question a few weeks ago, as I am interested in these too, specifically as I don't like driving on the motorway with a lorry about 6 inches from the back of my trailer frightening my horse!
I thought he would be protected from the traffic and have a nicer journey in an "enclosed" trailer.
I have since found out that one of my friends has a Fautra, which they are very pleased with, the only thing they don't like is that the front door/ramp is very heavy - the owner is a slightly built lady of mature years!
When I was in France I noted that there were lots of Fautras whizzing up and down the motorway.
Someone pointed out that the Equitrek only has the side entrance, so if the worst happened and the trailer went over, how would you get the horses out? Some other also said that they didn't think the build quality on the Equitrek was that good.
Having said that, I know some endurance riders who bought one of the very early Equitreks who think it is lovely - the horses travel and load very well and they like the extra space.
There is a dealer of Fautras in Warwickshire - point2point trailers - and they advertise trailers for hire as well, so I thought I might see if I can hire a Fautra and see how I get on with it. When the budge allows, that is!
Well I was looking to buy a lorry but to get hay/haylage round bales I use a Isuzu Trooper (To be a Toyoyta Lancruiser or surf soon) towing a Ifor williams flat bed and I'd still need a big 4x4 to do that so it seems sensible to just stick with a trailer, but a swish one!
On my old yard there was a family who had a 3 horse Fautras - I'm not much help but they LOVED it and it was very swish indeed. Lots of room for saddles and they even managed to squeeze their son's bike in too!
Id love to try the Fautras but unfortunately there isnt a dealership near me to hire one. My horse travels great in a wagon but is petrified just stood in a trailer, I hoped to buy an Equitrek as I thought he would see this as a wagon so borrowed one but he was having none of it. I cant risk getting a fautras incase he wont go in that either
I got told a story of how a horse skinned its head on the lip of the Equitrek, where the ramp meets the body and after trying to get my boy in one realised how easy it would be as he kept running out backwards whacking his head on the lip as he came out. It was the L model too. We gave up as he was going to injure himself and I didnt have a poll guard to hand.
The newer models have a rubber seal round the lip but we looked at some 2nd hand ones at a dealership and they didnt have this and it was sharp.
Saying that if your horse travels fine and if mine would go in one then I would love one. Have to say though I wondered about it tipping and not being able to get the horse out.
I towed my equitrek with my trooper and now i tow it with a Nissan Navara. I went and looked at a dealers and wanted the herringbone Fautras but they were soooo dark inside and the equitreks are light and spacious. Weve been on the shoulder of the M25 before waiting and my horse was so calm as its so quiet inside. Everything I have travelled in it loads first time, Ive slept in it, you can change in it and I love it dont care that it looks like a chavy white van!
Ive got the bog standard model BTW.
Hiya,
Registered on here to ask for any info on then Fautras Oblic 2 and saw this thread.
I currently have lorry but due to the new emissions law find I have to change ! I have one horse who does not like to travel forward facing but is happy when travelling herringbone.... The Fautras oblic 2 would be perfect, just looking for someone who has one to hear what they think about them.

I have a Show Treka, having upgraded from the SportsTreka which they don't make any more. I love it - the build quality of the new one is vastly improved on the old one. The horses travel very well in it, and the living is ideal for me as I do endurance and often stay away overnight. I tow mine with a Disco 2.5 tdi, and have no problems except when in muddy fields and that's not the trailer's fault!
I accept what someone said about the side ramp meaning that if it overturns you would have difficulty getting the horses out - but how often does that actually happen? I think the overall advantages outweigh that disadvantage.
