I have never given My boy this wormer and we are due to worm at the yard again and this is what we are using. The only wormer he has taken a reaction to was equimax and that made him very hoof sensitive.

I am worried about giving him an unknown wormer as the equimax was only given because the yard was using it.

Does anyone know if it's safe to give a cushings horse this wormer?

Eqvalan duo has the same two active ingredients as Equimax. Is there a particular reason to use this product? Have you tested to know that there is a worm burden? If your horse is not wormy then no need to worm now. It's too early for the winter dose to target encysted stages of redworm yet. As for tapeworm you can use the saliva test and only worm if necessary. A single drug product like Equitape would treat a positive result but the majority of horses don't have tapeworm.

I have no evidence for this but think I would err on the side of not using combined products on a horse that is metabolically compromised and has had an adverse reaction previously. Is the yard owner happy for you to use alternatives? One of the older horses on my yard would often colic post worming and I could never understand why the owner didn't actually say to the YO no, I will test instead- particularly as he was only out with her other horse anyway.

Combined wormers are the bane of my life. My yard basically use equest pramox twice a year like clockwork, in May and October. No egg counts or saliva tests. While I try educate but it falls on deaf ears. It's a diy yard so I basically do egg counting and saliva tests and worm accordingly with specific targeted wormers on my own horse as that's all I can do in my situation until I win the lottery and can buy my own field/get a space on a swanky yard which manages worming properly.

My horse has had cushings for 4 years now and luckily, never had a problem with any of the wormers..equest pramox, equivalan duo or equimax... All of them should be safe to give your horse but if you have had a reaction before and everything else was in place correctly ( right feed, hay, grass intake, balanced feet) then maybe consult yr vet or the laminitis site for more information...

He has only popped one low red worm count in 8 yrs and never for tape worm. My yard does worm even though he always pops a no eggs seen in sample count. He had a double dose of strongidP in march for pinworm

This is for tapeworm as his last count came back clear.

I am going to speak to the YM as I am not on board with worming for the sake of it and he has been wormer more in the last three years than he ever has been in the past.

I will ask for an equitape if there is no other option but to worm.
