Has anyone heard of this? http://www.equiwinner.com/equiwinner.htm They claim that it is guaranteed to stop headshaking (patches you stick onto the horse for 10 days which lower the blood pressure, as far as I can make out, or your money back). Really interested to hear if anyone has ever used this. Am more than slightly sceptical.....

They actually say only 85% success rate on headshakers. Pardon my cynicism but what a load of wishy-washy twaddle. If it was that successful, why isn't it routinely prescribed to affected horses across the UK/world and why isn't headshaking a disease of the past? Why is it still puzzling the best veterinary minds in the country? And if anyone from Equiwinner (dearie me, what a name) wants to challenge this, then let's see some scientific evidence, some statistics, some double blind trials, some repeatable experiments. Save your money hun, unless you work for/have shares in the company and this is a crafty bit of advertising.

This was posted about on the old forum last year I think, so I looked into it. I couldn't see how it would work (I'm no scientist) but for my boy it would have meant taking him off his effective drugs at the time of year when he is worst and then try it, and that meant not having him safe / sane / comfy at a busy time of our riding year, so I decided to let it go and stick with what I know to work for him. Sorry not to be of more help, but I do seem to recall someone on here had a go as they could get their money back. Keep trying, someone may post with good news for you.

Hi, I tried equiwinner patches and unfortunately they did not work. I did however get my money back so its perhaps worth a try!! I am currently trying herbs (tried every herb going on the market!!) form silverlining herbs. Whilst they havn't 'cured' him I think they are helping. Good luck and let me know if you find anything we havn't all tried!!

Ermm NOT a "craft bit of advertising". Just a genuine inquiry from the owner of a headshaker who has tried many different "remedies". If you read my OP it states that I am more than slightly sceptical.

sorry to upset the applecart somewhat, but i have used Equiwinner patches on our horse, he suffered nose bleeds for years, on and off, either out hunting or at rest turned out, we had him endoscoped etc and his future was debateable, whether to bash on and jump clear should he drop or turn him away, which he would have hated. since the 10 day course theres been not a hint of bleed so i personally support this companybut obviously i can only speak from my own experience- as for headshaking, not sure about that one!!

Thank you to those of you who posted geniune replies! If you have ever owned a headhsaker and watched him flicking away in the field with a flymask, nose net, Naf Shake relief and god-knows-what other herbal remedy inside him you will know what it feels like. I am a trained scientist and journalist and no, I can't see how something that you stick on your horse for 10 days can cure it for a season. But if I had independent success story (not from their website) then I would give it a go. That's why I posted on here, Box of Frogs, not to advertise their product. I thought that was the whole point of this forum?? Anyway he's getting a Guardian facemask this week to see if it works better than his Shires one.

i forgot to mention that our boy was given these patches 2 years ago, not just lately, and hes been 100% since.i am no scientist either but we were willing to give anything a try so it was a worthy £60.

I am on day 3 of equiwinner patches to try to cure headshaking! I have found the supplier to be extremely helpful and with a money back guarantee, what do I have to lose? I am keeping my fingers crossed! I can only assume they work a bit like nicotine patches, rebalancing the chemical system of the horse. I am sceptical regarding many of the 'solutions' and when I read a load of hippy drivel I get totally frustrated, that was one of the reasons I am trying equiwinner as they state they have solved the problem for 1,000 horses. I do not know why they are not prescribed by vets, unless of course, the vets do not make money on the product, who knows! Each horse is different, rather like prescribing an anti depressant, some will suit some people and not others. I just hope I am lucky. If I do get a result I will keep you posted, they say some top trainers will use them up to 4 times a year and I would be prepared to do this if it solves the problem. Has anybody had any success with other products or equiwinner, besides the nose net? This stops my mare from swinging her head around, but she still becomes so stressed by sunlight and flies that it is dangerous and sad to see her suffer so badly.
