I've had the fitter out who has a Second hand equxtra viper medium wide at £500. Are they any good, I've seen details on eBay but no where else and they are £600 new

The saddle had a few scuff marks to it and some of the fittings have rusted which makes me feel it's not quite worth £500 when for a hundred pounds more I could have a brand new one....

Saddler also took two of my saddles to sell on at the value of £800 min but has requested I pay the £500 for the equxtra now, am a little confused ??

Advise welcome..... Even if it's not what I want to hear :p

Hmmm the second hand one I have is in better condition under the saddle flap and around the edge but the back of the seat has a few welt marks which I had to sort out. They both have the same rusting effect around the metal studs near the D rings.

I have the saddle but haven't paid or used it yet, he is a good saddler and would like him to sell mine but still feeling a bit ripped off .....

I would say he want the cash up front in case yours dont sell or take many months to sell. With regards to cost of the secnd hand one, maybe he paid too much for it and is trying to recoup the money back, or simply being cheeky and you need to point out the other ones you have seen for not much more new. Having said that, you dont HAVE to buy from him. Guess its a bit tricky since he has two of your saddles and you one of his, none of which have been paid for yet!

I agree it is a bit tricky, I've spoken to equxtra and he could see where I was coming from , but only has a second hand dressage in at present.

Just seen a barnesby in lovely condition for £600 so I feel that does put a bit more perspective on it for me.

They are gorgeous saddles and so comfortable although I don't have the Viper I have the Cobra and I absolutely love it :)

I bought mine second hand for £200.00 and it is in fab condition so by the sounds of what you have described I would say that he is asking a bit to much for it.

I would keep an eye out as they do pop up for sale and they are usually around £200-£300. :)

For the price is saddler is asking, you can just buy a new one from Equxtra and they will come out to fit it to your horse or make it you the measurements if you are too far out for them to come.

I bought one of their side saddles and it was beautiful and well made and they came out to measure up Hattie and to fit it when it was done (I'm only 40 miles away from them though). They are a nice company to deal with and go the extra mile.

i have a terranger with the viper knee rolls, it is super comfy, and has a lovely deep seat, i used mine for showing, jumping and dressage, and it still looks like new, i had it made to measure and paid about £575 for it, he added a point strap and did the change of knee rols and flaps at no extra cost
