Er... Delicate/awkward question...

Bit of an awkward thread... Basically whenever I do anything with my Gelding on the ground (grooming, carrot stretches etc) he gets his little guy out.

Does anyone elses gelding do this?! If so, do you just accept that he is enjoying himself or do you try and make him put it away?
 
My Tb gelding can be a bit like that at times, but I didn't realise they could control it so I just kind of politely ignored it :)
 
One of mine gets his out all the time when he is happy and relaxed. I take it as a good sign as I know he is not going to be up to any mischief while his willy is out.
 
Queenie_ I think you have a very lucky horse. They generally "hang loose" when feeling nice and relaxed so he's obviously enjoying your attention and in a totally innocent way :)
 
One of my geldings will always do it when his being brushed his also the same horse who likes his tongue massaged and it will also make an appearance then too:)

I do try to take it as a compliment! Funnily enough he doesn't do it as much with my Mother who shares him so i've always joked that he loves me more!
 
Mine does when I'm brushing him, usually he's back legs too

When he was 3yrs old he used to get it out when I was poo picking and had a stage of trying to be very dominant over the wheelbarrow #weirdo
 
This made me snort loudly in very quiet office. Disturbing isn't it. When I turned my new mare out with my small welshie gelding he got his out and started waving it at her (I'd never, ever even seen it in 3 months of owning him) and since then he does it every time I groom him. It's like she's reawakened something in him!!!!!!!!!
 
One of the horses at work is a total perv when it comes to clipping. From the minute the clippers are swtiched on to the second d they are switched off his out and he is flexing it up and down! It kind of puts you off clipping underneath him lol!
 
Mine always has his out!! I think it's hilarious and quite sweet that he's relaxed enough to do it. My OH thinks it's weird how often it's out and how much we talk about it.

My YM always hits it or flicks it when she's in my stable, really really really pees me off!!
 
As this thread has been started I need to ask if something is normal... I was playing around with my horses mane practicing some plaiting when I noticed he had his bits out, not dangling though, like out and proud.. I ignored it not thinking much of it but noticed he was sniffing and snorting at me quite a lot, this isn't entirely unusual, he normally frisks me gently for treats but seemed a bit more intense than normal.. anyway I carry on as I was and he curls his neck/head around and really starts to snort and pins me to his side.. I'm 6 months pregnant so worried he was getting a bit excited and he might hurt the baby I pushed his head away. He continued snortyness and did the head in the air lip curly thing they do. My phone went off so nipped out the stable but when looking back through the bars he was no longer standing proud (if you catch my drift) and appeared to be dripping a little bit. I went back in, he looked mildly ashamed and that was that... now WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?! This has never happened before, he isn't in the slightest bit interested in mares in season, they could be tarting at him and he'd completely ignore him, I have never ever seen any frisky behaviour from him before so what was this?
 
Quite capable of firing blanks ;)

Frank's gets an airing fairly frequently- I told him that is why he ended up with skin cancer on it :p.
Another on the yard gets a bit too excited by grooming :p.

Goof has done this too, twice now. He's entire so less surprising than a gelding but still a bit shocking!

i would be wary and definitely dont allow him to curl and pin you to his side! its a real tiny chance, but stallions and frisky geldings can and will try and mount people if the desire takes them! a friend of my dads was lucky to escape with bruises when a shire stallion tried to mount her in the field recently!

it could have been a strange smell on your clothing or anything. just be careful especially as you are preggers.

i dont really buy in to the theory of not wearing perfume or deodorant etc or not handling stallions whilst on your period but with any horse entire or gelding you dont want to take the risk so dont put yourself in the position he can pin you anywhere. it was probably fairly innocent but best to be one step ahead.

I thought the same thing.. he didn't resist at all when I pushed him away and it happened really quickly but my first thought was about him striking out and catching me or something, it wasn't a particularly violent pinning, obviously if he'd wanted me to stay there I wouldn't have had much choice in the matter, maybe holding me with his head would have been a better description. It was so weird, I have had him for 4 years and he's NEVER done anything remotely similar so can only imagine it's something to do with being pregnant. I've been watching out for him being extra sniffy or anything since as I'd hate to get into trouble.

Well whatever it was I hope it'll not happen again. I had to have the conversation afterwards that I loved him but just not in that way.. it was very awkward all round :) I am certain he knows I'm pregnant though, apart from getting frisky, he has been so so gently with me and polite.
 
My old boy didn't get it out but when I did clean in and around the nether regions he would rock back and fore. That was very disconcerting.

My boy now has melanomas in his sheath so I need to clean it regularly (at least once a fortnight). He hates it and threatens to take me head off. I am much more comfortable with this than the old boy's reaction. Even having to sedate him every 3 months for a proper clean is preferable!

Isn't it the prostate gland that produces seminal fluid, and the testicles that produce sperm? I knew a donkey who, well did everything you would expect of a jack (and I mean EVERYTHING, down to the last detail) , including going off and having a nice snooze after, but his owner, a VERY experienced donk keeper assured me he was most definitely gelded.
 
I've just remembered a pony I used to know. His owner didn't like willy washing whereas I don't mind at all, so I did him one day, and whenever he saw me after that he would drop it down. Ooh, Betty!
